Kalaburagi: City police have detained a man from Uttar Pradesh on suspicion of maintaining contact with Pakistan through social media platforms, following inputs from a central intelligence agency. A case has been registered at the Gulbarga University police station, and the investigation is under way.The operation was carried out by the Kalaburagi city police’s Anti-Terror Squad based on intelligence shared by the central intelligence department. During the inquiry, officials detained Sameer, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, along with another individual, Salman, for questioning.Police later released Salman after finding no evidence of his involvement. Sameer, however, remained under interrogation as investigators examined his alleged communications with individuals in Pakistan through WhatsApp calls and Facebook.According to police sources, officials recovered certain maps from a room near Malagatti on the outskirts of Kalaburagi city, where Sameer had been staying. Investigators are now probing the nature of the maps, the purpose for which they were kept, and whether they have any connection to the suspect’s alleged contacts across the border.Senior officers of the Kalaburagi city police are questioning Sameer to ascertain the extent of his links and activities. Authorities said the investigation is continuing, and further details will emerge based on the findings of the probe. A case has been registered at the Gulbarga University police station.
