Schoolgirl sexually assaulted near Krishnagiri

KRISHNAGIRI: An eight-year-old girl was accosted and sexually assaulted by a group of unidentified men while she was returning from school near Denkanikottai in the district on Wednesday evening, Krishnagiri district SP GS Anitha said.The incident took place in a hill village where the girl is studying in Class IV at a government primary school.After returning home, the girl narrated the ordeal to her parents, who took her to the Denkanikottai Government Hospital.She was later referred to Krishnagiri Government Medical College and Hospital, where doctors informed the Denkanikottai police.Salem range DIG Santosh Hadimani and Anitha visited the village and initiated inquiries.The SP said a case has been registered, and three special police teams have been formed to trace the culprits.Preliminary investigations revealed that two or three men may have been involved in the crime.
