Girl objects to dad’s drinking, he shoots her dead; held

Pilibhit: A 20-year-old BA Part II student was allegedly shot dead by her father at their home in Rampura Naugwan under Bisalpur Kotwali police station limits on Friday evening after she objected to his drinking habit, police said. The accused was arrested on Saturday evening.As per the complaint filed by the deceased’s mother, Shweta Gangwar, her husband, Ajay Pal Gangwar, 49, a farmer by profession, returned home in an inebriated state and got into a minor argument with their daughter, Anshika. The girl was teaching her younger brother when her father allegedly pulled out a country-made pistol tucked into his waistband, placed it against her left temple and fired. She died instantly, the complaint stated.Ajay Pal fled the house after the shooting but was arrested near a mazar (grave) close to his native village, following a tip-off. Bisalpur Kotwali police station SHO Sanjiv Kumar Shukla said, “Police filed an FIR under BNS section 103(1) (murder) late Friday night, and the relevant section of the Arms Act was consequently added.”SHO Shukla said Ajay Pal has a criminal history, including two murder cases registered in 2012 and 2025, besides a case under the Arms Act. “Ajay Pal was acquitted by the court in the 2012 murder case and the Arms Act matter, while in another murder case registered last year, he was granted bail on Feb 25 this year,” he said.Pilibhit SP Sukirti Madhav said the arrested accused would be produced before the remand magistrate on Sunday. He said that a country-made .315-bore pistol used in the murder was seized from his possession.
