Protesting farmers support Gurnam Charuni, Abhay Chautala leaves venue

AMBALA: After expressing solidarity with sugarcane farmers of Ambala district, who are protesting in Begna river in Naraingarh area, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Singh Chautala left the venue in a scoff when protesting farmers urged political parties to support Gurnam Singh Charuni in the forthcoming assembly polls.
Earlier on Wednesday Chautala visited the farmers and announced an amount of Rs 51,000 , however just as he finished his address, farmer leader Vinod Rana Khuda asked not only the farmers but also political parties to support Charuni. An upset Chautala left the venue right away. Charuni has announced to contest from Ladwa assembly constituency of Kurukshetra district as the candidate of Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Party.
On hearing Vinod’s appeal, Abhay said, “I have come here to support farmers and not to fulfill your political desires. Charuni is not a farmer but is playing politics in their name.” During the Lok Sabha elections, he supported the Congress party. After hearing Abhay, Charuni said, “He is from the same Chautala clan, which had lodged the farmers in the jail and had also killed seven farmers during their government. We respected him as he came here to support us in the protest, but we will not tolerate such behaviour.”
Some videos of the Abhay’s visit and heated arguments with the farmers have also gone viral on social media. Charuni said, “In 2002, our leader Ghasi Ram Nain of Bharatiya Kisan Union was lathi-charged and lodged in jail for 13 months. He was illegally kept in the prison cell meant for those who are sentenced to death. During Kandela episode, seven farmers were killed in Gulkani village under the regime of Om Prakash Chautala. We have not forgotten anything. During his visit at the protest in Begna River, Abhay’s whole address was political.” When questioned about Abhay’s reaction against him, Charuni said, “INLD also claims to be a party of farmers and they will never tolerate a farmer becoming a leader and reaching the state assembly.”
