Seers extend support to One Nation, One Election

Haridwar: Seers extended support to the govt’s “One Nation, One Election” proposal to hold Lok Sabha and state assembly polls simultaneously, at a programme held at Shreeji Vatika in Jwalapur, Haridwar on Sunday. They said the proposal would save time and resources and reduce the administrative burden of frequent elections.
Seers from both factions of the Akhara Parishad and office-bearers of most akharas attended the event and unanimously backed the proposal.
“The policy is the need of the hour. A lot of money and time is wasted due to repeated elections,” Mahant Ravindra Puri, president of one faction of the ABAP, told TOI.
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, who also attended the event, said the proposal would help accelerate India’s progress towards becoming a developed nation by 2047. Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and leaders representing major akharas also attended the event.
