Tree falls on hotel in Mussorie, dislodges railing, damages car

Mussoorie: A tree collapsed on the roof of a hotel in Mussoorie’s Mall Road around 12.30am on Sunday, damaging the upper portion and dislodging a railing that fell on a car parked outside the premises.
Ajay Bhargava, owner of Hotel Surya Kiran, said no one was in the room below the damaged portion of the roof. “The tree also dislodged the railing on the side of the Mall Road and it fell below, badly damaging our car,” Bhargava added.
The tree was uprooted in the intervening night after prolonged rain, officials said. The fire brigade reached the spot shortly after the incident and cleared the road, while the branches were removed from the hotel roof in the morning.
Meanwhile, movement of heavy vehicles has been “stopped” on the Mussoorie-Dehradun road at km 21, ahead of Pani Wala Bend, where heavy rain had washed away a section of the road earlier this week.
The PWD has started repair work on the stretch. “Repair work is in full swing and in about a week we should be able to start normal vehicular movement at this site,” said Pradeep Singh Shahi, additional assistant engineer, PWD.
