Man arrested with 12kg of ganja in Muvattupuzha
Kochi: A 39-year-old man was arrested with 12kg of ganja during an inspection conducted as part of Operation Toofan in Muvattupuzha on Sunday.
Masadul Islam of Murshidabad in West Bengal was arrested by the district anti-narcotic special action force (Dansaf-Ernakulam Rural) and the Muvattupuzha police.
According to the police, Islam bought the ganja from Odisha and travelled by train to Aluva. He was arrested while travelling by autorickshaw from Aluva when the vehicle reached Sangamam Padi at Thrikkalathoor.

The contraband was found packed in separate packets inside a bag. The police said Islam bought ganja at Rs 3,000 a kg and sold it locally for Rs 25,000 a kg, mainly among migrant workers. He had also been arrested earlier in a ganja-related case, the police said.


The investigation team included narcotics cell DSP C Binu Kumar, Muvattupuzha DSP K R Manoj, inspector M S Faisal and station house officer Subin Biju.

Four individuals were arrested in separate raids conducted as part of Operation Toofan on Saturday as well. The police seized around 3.5kg of cannabis and 6.5g of heroin from them.


The police have launched an investigation to identify those who supplied the drugs and potential buyers in all the cases.
