Three booked in Berasia abetment to suicide over ancestral land dispute

Bhopal: Berasia police on Friday registered a case on charges of abetment to suicide against the father, stepmother and elder brother of a 38-year-old man who died by suicide after allegedly being distressed over not receiving a share in his ancestral land, police said. The case was registered following a probe into his death.
The three accused were produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody, police said.
According to police, the deceased, Bhagwan Singh, a resident of Rampura Balachon, consumed poison on December 5, 2025. His wife rushed him to a private hospital, where he died during treatment the following day. Police initially registered a case of unnatural death and launched an inquiry. During the probe, statements of Bhagwan Singh’s wife and children, along with earlier complaints, were examined.
Police said Bhagwan Singh’s 70-year-old father had remarried. He lived with his second wife and their son. Bhagwan Singh and his brother Arjun were from Om Prakash’s first marriage.
According to the investigation, a dispute arose over division of the family’s land. Police alleged that Om Prakash gave a share of the property to wife and son but Bhagwan Singh and Arjun were denied a share.
Bhagwan Singh was reportedly distressed over the issue took the extreme step.
