Rural CG gets 3,942 crore digital connectivity push

Raipur: Chhattisgarh is set for a rural broadband expansion after the Centre approved Rs 3,942 crore for implementing the Amended BharatNet Programme, covering 11,682 gram panchayats and providing connectivity on demand to another 8,328 villages.The project aims to upgrade rural telecom infrastructure and strengthen last-mile broadband access in remote and underserved areas. Under the rollout, 4,048 Phase-I gram panchayats will be upgraded from linear to ring topology to improve network resilience. It will also cover 5,964 Phase-II panchayats and 1,670 newly created panchayats.
An agreement for implementing the state-led programme was signed in New Delhi between Digital Bharat Nidhi under the Department of Telecommunications, the Chhattisgarh govt, Chhattisgarh State BharatNet Infrastructure Ltd, BSNL and Chhattisgarh Infotech Promotion Society.
The programme is expected to support more than three lakh rural fibre-to-the-home connections with financial assistance from the Centre.Officials said the expansion could improve access to e-governance, online education, telemedicine, digital payments and other digital services, particularly in remote areas. The agreement is expected to accelerate execution and extend broadband connectivity beyond district and block headquarters to village-level institutions and households.
