ANOTHER MIXED BAG
May 16, 2015

I love taking advantage of my time at home by making art! For me, it's a contemplative time...a time to relax and let my mind wander (more than usual! :) )
The challenge blogs have been busy and creative in declaring their themes. I've tried to be equally creative in responding to the challenges...
DIGITAL WHISPER wants to see a piece featuring COFFEE...
MIX IT MONTHLY continues it's request for a "happy couple." This is my third entry...I really like the theme!
TAKE A WORD challenge blog simply wants participating artists to use turquoise in their art piece... my response centering around one of my favorite subjects- trains!
THE THREE MUSES challenged participating artists to include some form of wheel in their piece... see my circus Ferris wheel?
Finally, at FLICKER's DIGITALMANIA, our inspiration this week is the Portuguese graphic artist, Cristiana Couceiro. Here's one of hers...

and here's what Cristiana inspired me to create...
That's it for this posting. Didn't take you long to see it, right? Thanks for stopping in. Please DO return...

This week, EGYPT, etc.

Upstate New York beauty...farms!!
Hi Everyone,
Hope you're having a good week...
A few days ago, Michael and I took a ride towards Ithaca to relive our days spent in and around Cornell University... we used to love the campus with all its traditional, ivy-covered buildings, fabulous bridges, waterfalls, and beautiful campus. Not so anymore... so many new buildings in a variety of styles that, to our eyes, clashed with the those that have grown more lovely with time... there's less green areas as well! I guess that's progress and development! Sad for our nostalgic journey. As we drove through the towns to return home, we were struck, once again, with the beauty of Central New York. There are many farms, rolling fields and land that looks like patchwork quilts.

As we passed the city of Cortland, we stopped to search for the house I lived in while I did my undergraduate studies there... found it with no trouble as the address is one I won't forget! Many good times in this house... and the outside looks pretty much the same!

On to the art for this posting... blog challenges continue.
CRAZY AMIGO asked us to create a baby card for a girl so my dear granddaughter was my frame of reference...
INSPIRATION AVENUE challenged us to think about WHEELS. Being obsessed with the Gypsies or Roma of this world, I immediately thought of the wagons that they traveled in... don't think there are many who still travel that way, with wooden wheels and brightly colored caravans...
COLLAGE OBSESSION was in a monochromistic mood declaring GRAY as their theme...
Finally, our virtual travel for this week, as prescribed by Darcy's ART and SOLE POSTCARD CHALLENGE, is to EGYPT! Known for its pyramids, mummies, hieroglyphics, Pharohs, their more than 1000 gods and goddesses and for equal rights for women ALWAYS...plus so many inventions... ancient Egypt was a very advanced, sophisticated society. My book page shows their very early recorded history using musical instruments, many of which they developped; my postcard centers on their invention of make-up, used by both men and women.

That's it for this week. Enjoy your weekend... hope to see you for the next edition of The Vivere (The Life.)

Hugs,
