So, last night I went to see Panic! At The Disco, mostly as an excuse to hang with my gig girls - [livejournal.com profile] emma_took and [livejournal.com profile] strongplacebo - who are awesome and hilarious and I love them a lot. I swear I haven't laughed so much as I did last night in a long, long time. I keep remembering random moments and giggling to myself &my gig girls;

The highlights of the night, IMO, were a really rather good cover of How Soon Is Now by The Smiths, and Nearly Witches, which I've had stuck in my head since I woke up. I'll leave the full-on concert report to someone else (as I am sure there will be many posts about it), if you follow me on twitter then you know my thoughts were mostly 'Ian! \o/' based.

I took a LOT of photos as is my want, and these are they.

Or they will be, first have a random shot of an empty tube station, and one of the only good thing about the support band - their bassist, who was hot. Why yes, I am the shallowest, thank you for noticing.

Aaand these are the photos of Panic! We were sitting in the back row of the first level balcony so some of them are just a tad grainy due to distance and lighting effects, etc.

Title: Ghosts in the Machine
Pairing: Pete/Mikey
Rating: PG13
Summary: Killjoys in space! An AU of an AU, in which Pete runs the bar at the end of the universe.
Word count: 5500
Notes: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cmonkatiekatie for the beta, and to [livejournal.com profile] turps33 for the encouragement and for brainwashing me into loving h/c. ♥ to you both.

Warning: Discussion of and reaction to (implied) character death. This is quite a dark fic in places and some may find it triggery so I've posted a more detailed warning here (contains major plot spoilers). Please check that post first if you need more information before reading this fic.

Pete runs the bar at the end of the universe. That’s not its real name, it’s just something Gabe called it once that stuck in people’s memories until its actual name was all but forgotten. )

Happy Shakespeare Day, flist! In honour of this day that marks both the birth and the death of the great Bard of Avon everyone should post their favourite snippet of Shakespeare. I'll go first.

Mine is a monologue from Romeo and Juliet, a play which, oddly enough, is one of my least favourite of Shakespeare's works but which contains one of my favourite of his characters, Mercutio, whose monologue this is:

O, then I see Queen Mab hath been with you.
She is the fairies' midwife, and she comes
In shape no bigger than an agate stone
On the forefinger of an alderman,
Drawn with a team of little atomies
Over men's noses as they lie asleep;
Her wagon spokes made of long spinners' legs, )

Alternatively, you can watch Harold Perrineau, the very prettiest of all Mercutios, perform an abridged version of the monologue here

And as a bonus, here's my very favourite stage actor, the fabulous Rory Kinnear, performing a brief snippet of Hamlet.

Now you post yours!

I’ve been trying to post this for a couple of days but LJ has been being most unco-operative. Stupid LJ.

Anyhoo, on Tuesday I jumped on a train and went to Newcastle to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] turps33 and see My Chemical Romance. It was awesome.

[livejournal.com profile] turps33 posted an excellent recap here so if you haven’t already read it you should go do so. Mine is likely to be a lot less detailed and a lot more rambly, as is my want.

My Chemical Romance @ Metroradio Arena, Newcastle )

Here, have some (not especially great) photos.

I have photographic proof that Mikey smiles! )

And have a few random shots of Newcastle for good measure

hither )
In short: MCR are awesome, Newcastle is gorgeous, and [livejournal.com profile] turps33 and her family are wonderful, lovely, funny as hell and I really did not want to go home.

I’m pretty sure that everyone on my flist with any kind of connection to bandom has done this already (if you haven’t, DO IT NOW!), but if everyone outside of bandom who sees this could please go to the link below and give Empires five stars it would be super awesome.

http://www.rollingstone.com/choosethecover/artists/empires

Empires are an amazing band who tour, record, release, and promote their music completely on their own terms without any kind of record company backing or support and they so so deserve to get the kind of recognition their talent demands. A Rolling Stone cover would go a long way to getting them that. Please vote ♥

For [livejournal.com profile] cmonkatiekatie because it's her birthday and I love her a lot A LOT. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub for the super fast beta. No warnings apply.

The problem, Eames thinks, is that the thrill of the chase doesn't lie in the chase itself )

Today did not start well. I woke up nearly two hours later than I am supposed to on a work day and then when I did finally drag my ass to the station there were no trains because someone stole the overhead cables (again). So I had to get an unbelievably crowded and uncomfortable 'rail replacement' bus for half the journey then wait half an hour for a train to finally show up a few stations down the line. I eventually got to work roughly four hours late. And my day went downhill from there :(

Anyways, I saw Black Cards last night at The ICA in London. The sound was pretty shitty but they were tons of fun. Bebe is gorgeous and adorable and super bouncy and entertaining, and Pete was smiley and happy and dancing around and enjoying himself and that was awesome to see. I didn't really realise how much I'd missed seeing his face until he stepped on stage &Wentz; Also, I maybe got a little teary-eyed during his 'depression beard' speech but we're just going to blame that on PMT and move on, okay? Okay.

Plus I got to hang with [livejournal.com profile] strongplacebo which is always awesome, and we saw [livejournal.com profile] jess_darkwater and [livejournal.com profile] lovinspike247 as well (although I didn't get to chat with them much as I had a friend from work with me who found the whole black walls, ceiling and floor thing The ICA has going on to be hugely claustrophobic and uncomfortable).

I took a bunch of photos these are they )

Flist, it is effing freezing and my heating does not work and, unless I win the lottery, will not be working any time soon. Please to be sending warm thoughts my way. Also blankets. Brrrr.

Anyhoo, last night I went to see My Chemical Romance with [livejournal.com profile] emma_took and [livejournal.com profile] strongplacebo and it was AWESOME. It was seriously one of the best gigs I have been to in aaaaages, MCR were amazing AND I got to hang out with two of my very favourite people and spend most of the evening laughing so hard it hurt &my gig girls;

I'm too lazy to write a lengthy recap as I am sure there are a bunch of those around already, but the highlights of the evening included: 3000 people singing Na Na Na so loudly you could hardly hear MCR, Gerard rapping during Planetary (Go!) (LOLOLOL! No, really, LOLOLOLOLOLOL!), and...yeah just the whole show. And my thoughts for the evening can be summed up thusly: HOLY FUCK! MIKEY FUCKIN' WAY *____________*

I didn't take that many photos because a) we were standing virtually at the back of the venue and b) I was too busy enjoying myself. But here are the few I did take MCR at Hammersmith Apollo )

And on Wednesday I get to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] strongplacebo again (but sadly not [livejournal.com profile] emma_took :( ) and see Black Cards \o/ p.s. I still have one, possibly two, spare ticket(s) if anyone wants them :D?

Hello, livejournal. I have been mostly absent for, ooh, a while now. This can be blamed almost entirely on work being crazy busy and me not having the energy to do much more than collapse on the sofa in front of Eastenders when I get home (on the iplayer, because, lol, do not get home early enough to actually watch it most nights :|). But I shall try and be a bit better about keeping up with my flist, etc, from now on. Honest.

UK flisters - I have two spare tickets for the Black Cards show at The ICA in London on October 27th. Anyone want them? Or, alternatively, anyone know someone who might want them?

Also of (potential) interest to UK types - I saw THE most brilliant production of Hamlet on Saturday at The National Theatre. Seriously the best production of the play that I've seen (and I have seen it far too many times!) with some really interesting takes on both the characters and the overall setting/atmosphere of the play. I'm not sure how long it runs for or even if there are tickets available but I really recommend seeing it if you can.

In other news: I have signed up for [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo. I am hoping it will be the spark that I need to start writing again, because I kind of miss it.

ETA: I finally beat the last level of Plants vs Zombies! My overblown sense of achievement, let me show you it \o/

I saw The Like play the The ICA in London on Wednesday. They were awesome and I want to see them again asap.

I took a bunch of photos - they're not the greatest because my camera is not the biggest fan of dark places but here are some of them anyway )

Interesting fact for those who collect canon info: Z announced that it was her and Tennessee's 9 year anniversary on Wednesday, which means they met on September 15th 2001.
themoononastick: refract ([jonwalker] jwalk needs a chair)
I've spent most of the last few days either up to my elbows in soapy water washing 60+ years of accumulated dust off of the largest collection of plates, cups, saucers and wildly unattractive ornaments known to man, or sorting through box after box of books and papers and photos and other assorted stuff from my grandad's flat. I still have three boxes of it blocking up my hallway that need going through but, tbh, it is an extremely depressing way to spend my days and I am giving myself the (long) weekend off. /whining.

In other news: I mostly avoid April Fool's joke like the plague BUT this year The Guardian have outdone themselves -> Step outside, Posh Boy (the gallery of 'posters' in the sidebar is especially hilarious!)

April the first also means that there are now only 30 days till the BBB deadline D: This is probably not the best time to decide that while I love the story I have, it feels like it is WAY too self-indulgent for something as public as BBB and so I should probably write something else. Like I said, D:

I think I am just going to go back to staring at this photo and ignore everything else. That seems like a good plan, y/y?

Hi, flist! Whatcha doing? Who else is doing BBB? How are things going with your stories?

ETA: every time I see my header it makes me laugh. I'm going to count that as a win.

Few things in life make me happier than wandering over to Hype Machine and finding the new LCD Soundsystem single has leaked all over the blogosphere \o/ Oh James Murphy, how I love thee. Now gimme that album.

Other things that make me happy right now are: winning auctions on ebay by a single penny (ha! sucks to be you, rival bidder!), and the way that tumblr is a constant source of really pretty pictures from the TYV tour. So, in honour of the second of those things, I picspam.

there's no one happier in life than Ryan Rossy with a tambourine )

p.s. I am off to Sussex again tomorrow, but I will upload some classics of the nineties (as per the poll results) on Wednesday ♥

So, do any of you use Chrome as a browser? Firefox is driving me nuts at the moment with the super-slowness and the freezing and the not letting any other program on my computer run at the same time as I have it open, so I am contemplating switching. But I am kind of attached to my add-ons and life without adblock and noscript, etc is scary to contemplate. Chrome users, tell me why I should switch.

In other news: I have had an over-dramatic and not entirely pleasant weekend that mostly involved way too much in the way of my family. The annual get-together yesterday was its usual mix of awkward and just plain uncomfortable, and then my grandad decided to take up escapology and went walkabout from his assessment unit. He was found eventually, and then he escaped again, because he is a wiley old geezer and had obviously got bored or something. Anyway, the upshot is that we (my parents and I) headed down to Sussex today to get him moved from the assessment place to his new, secure, residential home where we left him happily chatting away with an equally confused but adorable old lady who lives in the room down the hall to him. Bless.

In other, other news: Ryan Rossy is my favourite.
themoononastick: refract ([misc] me me me!)
UK flisters, the sheer unadulterated joy that is In The Loop is on BBC2 at 10pm this evening and I cannot recommend the watching of it highly enough. It is one of the sharpest, most intelligent and funniest movies ever made, also the swearingest (what? it's a word!). If you are not familiar with the glory that is Malcolm Tucker then you can get a taster of both him and the film here and here.

(I still think it is highly unfair that I am not allowed to have a sign saying "What would Malcolm Tucker do?" above my computer at work >:( )

*

I've had an exceptionally lazy weekend that's mostly involved much in the way of doing as little as possible and trying to catch up on all the sleep I missed last week. But I have spent some time thinking about my BBB (you know, as opposed to actually writing it. but it's the thought that counts, right? right?) and I have also created a new tumblr account. Mainly because my mum follows my inacitylining account aaaand while I do love her a whole lot I really do not feel comfortable sharing my thoughts on faily boys in bands, etc, in a space I know she will see on a regular basis. Which means I couldn't really use tumblr in the way I wanted. At all.

I'm still going to use the inacitylining account as a photoblog but I now have a main, day to day type account here. I've added everyone I was following already (I think! If I've missed anyone out, let me know) so if you were wondering who the random person who started following you is, it's me. And if there's anyone else whose tumblr I haven't discovered yet - feel free to add me if you so desire :)

In related news: Ryan Rossy continues to be adorable. &Ryan;

And lastly, my thoughts on Bob Bryar are these: Bob was my favourite member of MCR and, in fact, the main reason I had any interest in them at all. I enjoy Mikeyway in a fannish sense, in that his persona as created and used in fic by fandom is something I like a lot and will continue to do so, but on the whole MCR have always been my least favourite of the bandom bands. So while I am not as devastated by the news as some people on my flist, I am both saddened and sympathetic to the upset some are feeling, and I'd like to offer big hugs to those who need them. ♥
themoononastick: refract ([spencersmith] just testing)
So. Bad day. Blah blah blah work blah blah blah grandad blah blah blah I need a new spine blah blah even I'm getting sick of my whining now :|

But, oh hey, you know what makes things better? Fandom does. And, handily enough, [livejournal.com profile] china_shop is running a Fandom Appreciation Challenge and as I do indeed appreciate fandom, that seems like a good bandwagon to jump aboard. (even if I am already late for day 1... no surprise there, heh)

DAY 1: Rec 3 challenge stories or fanworks in your journal.

Challenge stories/fanworks include flashfics from a flashfic challenge, yuletide and secret santa stories, Valentine's exchanges, kink memes, porn battles, and any other organised challenge or exchange in any fandom.

I thought that seeing as the challenge is about fandom in its widest sense I would step outside my usual 'omg x just posted an awesome Ryan/Jon story' zone.

The Helicopter by shewhoguards, written for Yuletide - Top Gear RPF, gen

Set in the immediate aftermath of Richard Hammond's near fatal crash, this is a lovely fic about friendship with pitch perfect characterisations. (Bonus link: Hammond's triumphant return to the show \o/)

Collisions by halotolerant, written for Yuletide - Hustle, Ash/Sean, PG13

I adore Hustle and I wish there was so much more fic than there is, especially if it involved any combination of Ash, Sean and Mickey. This is a great little fic that uses the fake marriage trope in a nice way and, once again, the characterisations are excellent - to the point where you could read this with no knowledge of the show and still enjoy/understand it.

If You're Listening, Sing It Back by [livejournal.com profile] siryn99, written for [livejournal.com profile] popoffacork - Panic! at the Disco, Brendon/Spencer, Spencer/OMCs, NC 17

I meant to rec this when it was posted but I...forgot, because I suck. Um, better late than never, right? This is a wonderful fic with fabulous characterisations that deals with sexuality, friendship and life on the road in a really awesome and never clichéd way. And it has an OC who is well-rounded, sympathetically portrayed and immensely likeable, which, in my experience is a fairly rare find.

p.s. Save 6music and the Asian Network.
p.p.s [livejournal.com profile] help_chile. Just sayin'.
themoononastick: refract ([stock] converse of much love)
I know a lot of people are on limited budgets, but if you do have a few pounds/dollars/euros, etc, to spare please consider donating to one of the many charities organising disaster relief in/for Chile.

You can donate via Google here, or if you are in the UK you can donate via Save The Children, Christian Aid, or the British Red Cross.
