Addressing UK health inequalities– what does it mean for businesses and entrepreneurs?
Hosted by Healthy Lives Community of Practice at Innovate UKRI Business Connect
Virtual: 10:00 - 11:30
Are you developing products and services to help people live healthier lives? We have teamed up with Aging2.0 and International Longevity Centre (ILC) to bring you this on-line event which connects innovators, researchers, and entrepreneurs with the latest insights into local and national health data, including the newly launched UK Better Lives Index.
The UK Better Lives Index is a major new ILC project exploring how well different areas across the UK support their populations to live longer, better lives. It identifies the best and worst groups of places to be born, grow up and grow old in, and outlines what needs to happen now to deliver better lives for all people and places.
Learn how to use these insights and other data sources, to better serve communities, respond to market needs, and shape the future of healthy ageing.
Whether you’re refining your strategy, building investor-ready plans, or seeking to boost your competitive edge, this session will help you find where the gaps lie in terms of health, wellbeing, and financial inclusion in the UK, helping you apply your solution to where it’s needed most.

We will explore how age-friendly cities can be the drivers of their own, national and international, policy changes, broadening the Silver Economy and being the cornerstone of fiscal sustainability and economic growth. These urban centers play a pivotal role in creating and integrating infrastructure to suit the needs of their older populations, attracting businesses engaged in the Silver Economy, promoting healthy aging and providing a hub for education and training of its population throughout their life course. Building and sustaining an age-friendly city creates new business opportunities, leverages the talent and engagement of the entire population, works to keep their populations healthy, diminishes ageism and is a beacon for all sectors of society.

Loneliness in Later Life: A National Challenge with Human Consequences
Hosted by British Society of Gerontology SIG for Ageing, Business and Society
Online (Free • Open to public): 17:30 - 18:30
Join us Nov 12 for a Longevity Week event tackling loneliness in later life - its causes, consequences & solutions.
As part of the official agenda for Longevity Week 2025, this virtual event - hosted by the Ageing Business Society Special Interest Group and supported by the International Longevity Forum - will bring together leaders from across government, business, academia, healthcare, and civil society to address one of the most pressing and persistent issues of our time: loneliness in later life.
Despite growing awareness and the establishment of a Minister for Loneliness, millions of older adults in the UK continue to experience chronic loneliness, with profound consequences for their health, wellbeing, and quality of life. This session will explore the scale, complexity, and solvability of this national challenge.
Key objectives:
- Foster cross-sector collaboration to drive long-term solutions and investment in tackling loneliness.
- Elevate national awareness of the human and societal costs of loneliness in later life.
- Explore systemic drivers such as bereavement, digital exclusion, financial insecurity, health inequalities, housing, and the loss of social roles.
The event will feature expert speakers and panellists - including leaders from the hospitality sector - who will share insights, evidence, and lived experience to inform a more connected and compassionate future for ageing in the UK.

Extending the journey: Work and careers in an era of a rising State Pension age
Hosted by Standard Life Centre for the Future of Retirement
In-Person: 18:00 - 20:00 at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, London, EC1 7BL
Next year, the first group of people will see their State Pension age rise from 66 to 67 – the latest in a series of rises since 2010. Over that time, the employment rate of people in their 60s has increased, but remains far lower compared to people in their 40s and 50s.
Pre-retirement poverty among people in their 60s is growing, and being out of work before reaching State Pension age is a major driver of this trend. Factors such as health, caring or ageism lead many to leave work earlier than they would like to. Automatic enrolment into workplace pensions has helped millions more to save for their future, but at levels which may not give them an adequate income in retirement.
With the third review of the State Pension age now underway, the Standard Life Centre for the Future of Retirement is delighted to bring together a discussion about how to support longer careers in the context of a rising State Pension age. What progress has been made on the agenda of longer working lives since 2010? Which groups are most at risk of not being able to continue working until reaching State Pension age? What needs to change to help people stay in work that supports their health and wellbeing, as well as their financial needs for retirement?
The event will bring together a range of stakeholders to take stock of how the UK is doing on this agenda and debate what the priorities should be for action. We’ll hear the views of experts on how government, employers and individuals should think about longer careers in the context of a rising State Pension age, and there will be opportunities for Q+A and networking.
Please note that the event is in-person only, and places are limited.
