The Apple Street Cottage

I don't know about you, but, once in a while I see a wine bottle that has potential.  Sometimes it's the shape, sometimes it's the color.  With this one, it was the finish.  It had a nice 'brushed' finish and I immediately knew what I wanted to do with it. The great thing about this one was the label.  It completely came off after soaking for a few minutes in hot water.  There was no need for the peanut butter trick !  Once the label was off, I grabbed the jute twine and some E6000.  The neck of the bottle was given a thin coat of glue and the twine was wrapped around it. I bought some burlap ribbon from the dollar store a while ago, had no idea what to do with it, but knew it would be used at some point in time.   Since I only needed a small piece for this project, I've got lots left for something else......Winning! Last summer, while digging around some antique/vintage shops, I came upon this coat.  Honestly, I am not usually a 'Vintage Clothes Gal', but this coat spoke to me.  I slipped it on and fell in love. My husband took one look and said, "Buy it".  Eighteen dollars (that's right, $18) later, the coat was mine. This pic was taken on a hot August afternoon! It's from the 1950's and it's is great shape: That's the arm - not a tear in sight! It's wool and very warm. I did a quick search of this company.  They started in the 1950's in New Jersey. I bought a pair of dark brown leather gloves to match.  Yes, I paid more for the gloves that I did for the coat! That's right, my friends.  An old metal trash can was left behind at the cottage.  It looked like this: Yes, I forgot to take a 'before' pic!  I had some leftover spray paint from the bar stools , so, I got to work and sprayed the entire can.  Easiest project ever!!!   I put some plastic containers in the bottom (reused those empty laundry & milk bottles), so I didn't have to fill the entire can with soil (makes it lighter, too), added soil to the top, along with plants and some mulch - project completed! There was a big dent on the edge that I couldn't pound out, so I turned it to the back.  Here's a peek: So, there you have it - my upcycle project for this week.  Proof that you 'can' turn trash into treasure.
