These are notes I wrote back in August 2021 while documenting the origins of the Animation Challenge on the Bricks In Motion forums. It is not complete and may contain errors – consider it a “first draft” of sorts. It covers the original forum thread up to the 12th challenge, roughly from November 2009 to July 2010.

A new year, a new batch of animation challenges on the Bricks in Motion Discord server! Like last year, I’ll be maintaining a little overview list of the challenges, entries, and entrants. Last year’s animation challenge was a great success, and I hope to see lots more stuff this year.
Like last year, I’ll be periodically updating this list going forward.

So I’ve decided to compile a list of the Animation Challenges held on the Bricks in Motion Discord server. It’s been going since late January 2021. I thought it would be cool to have an easy week-by-week overview of the entries, and some data on the entrants / amount of entries every week as well.
This list is as complete as I can get it. Nonetheless, some entries may be missing because they were deleted before I could archive them. Additionally, in some cases the videos are made private or deleted from YouTube altogether. Last of all, although the Discord channel is very well-moderated and mostly clear of unnecessary posts, I have excluded some duplicate entries and references to “inspiration material” for challenges.
I will continue to periodically update this list as new challenges are completed.

So the second edition of the Seventy-two Hour Animation Contest has come and gone. I was planning to enter and have been working on my entry, but unfortunately wasn’t able to finish it in time. It’s alright, because there are 25 entries, and they’re all amazing! This blog post serves as a “portal” so people can find the films elsewhere, whether it be YouTube, Bricks in Motion, or Brick à Brack.I’m basing the list below off of the accepted entries list found on the forums. There is also a YouTube playlist which has a slightly different order.

Hiya! The sixteenth THAC is over and it has a record number of entries: 84 in total! Because it’s always a long list and there’s so many places to find the films I decided to make this post as a sort of “hub” to collect all the links. I’m going off the list of received entries that can be found here:
I’ll be adding more links as people release their films and upload them to BIM and/or YouTube and/or wherever else.
