It looks like a cat. I'll improve with practice. It's the first cat's face that looks catlike. For some reason, this picture looks better on paper than it does in the photograph. The colors blend together well on paper, but not so well in the photo.

All the initial ideas and feelings pop out through your fingers into that first draft. After that, it's time … Continue reading WRITING IS…
WHERE’S MITCH?
The new puzzle game, by Rich Paschall Perhaps you recall the children's puzzle books, Where's Waldo, known as Where's Wally outside North America. AND SO JULY ROLLS ALONG
SHARING MY WORLD AS WE HIT THE MIDDLE OF JULY This is the month of medical stuff. I thought I was done with this in April, then in May, but none of the tests came back "fine." None of them came back screaming "you are dying," but all of them came back with issues of … Continue reading AND SO JULY ROLLS ALONG
SENSIBLE VIOLENCE
The thing about "senseless violence" is that it implies there's another kind of violence. The sensible kind. Everybody talks about senseless violence, but I can't get a decent conversation going about sensible? AT HOME WITH THE RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS
They are as married as woodpeckers can be. These are our Red-Bellied Woodpeckers. They don't have a red belly except in the most distant way, but there's already a red-headed woodpecker, so they became red-bellied. They have a nest in this tree, and you can see all the woodpecker holes in it. This dying tree … Continue reading AT HOME WITH THE RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS
SKETCHBOOK 84 – FEAR
AN ILLUSTRATION AND A FIRST It was a new "Provocative" question from Fandango. I was looking for a picture that showed fear. Everywhere I looked, it was someone else's work. Drawings, photographs, posters. None of them seemed any better than my own photographs, which sadly didn't have anything showing fear. But the drawings were not … Continue reading SKETCHBOOK 84 – FEAR
