ICE CREAM!
Fandango’s Provocative Question #171 In a nice break from all the recent bad news, today's question is about (are you ready?) ice cream. It's summertime, after all. What could be more "on point" than summer's favorite treat? https://www.youtube.com/embed/TK_z73tVbgU The song "Summertime, Summertime, Summertime" was written by Sherm Feller, an announcer at Fenway Park (Boston, Red Sox). … Continue reading ICE CREAM!
BREEDING WOODPECKERS
The dying tree in the backyard is full of birds and nests. Many doves live and nest in the tree. It should also be no surprise that the dying tree (which has been dying for years) is home to a variety of woodpecker nests. A mated pair. Red head is the boy, and the grey … Continue reading BREEDING WOODPECKERS
DAYLILIES
FOTD – June 20 – Daylilies Usually, we get a big burst of daylilies all popping open on the same day. This year, we are getting a slow stream of lilies. One, then another three. Today, another five. The Inconvenience Store, by Rich Paschall It was a peaceful summer evening. The sun had just set. The air was warm, and the light breeze was refreshing. Jorge had walked three blocks from his small apartment to the local convenience store for a Big Drink and Big Sandwich combination. He had little food at home … Continue reading THE NEXT TO LAST STOP
SUMMER’S GONE
Brian Wilson, by Rich Paschall The musical genius behind the Beach Boys' sound, Brian Wilson, passed away this month. He was the co-founder of the group and the author of many of their hit songs. He had an uncanny knack for hearing the harmonies that he needed for each song. He was able to teach … Continue reading SUMMER’S GONE
A HOT AFTERNOON IN THE VALLEY
So what do you do with a long, hot, humid summer afternoon? It's hot outside, though not as hot as it was earlier in the month. As August approaches, we usually expect a significant temperature drop by the middle of the month. That's the way it usually goes. I hope this year follows the same … Continue reading A HOT AFTERNOON IN THE VALLEY
