Matt Birnbaum

Matt Birnbaum is a talent leader based in San Francisco. He helps startups build and scale their teams through hypergrowth. He runs Wylder, an embedded talent leadership practice for venture-backed startups, and founded Tapped, a curated marketplace that places early-career engineers at Bay Area startups. He also advises founders on recruiting and how to build their teams. Matt spent four years at Pear VC as its first platform hire, helping portfolio companies build their founding teams. Before that, he led talent acquisition at Instacart and spent eight years running UpStart Talent, a bootstrapped recruiting consultancy. He began his career at Wildfire Interactive, acquired by Google. He named Wylder after his son, Dougie, and his wife’s Noe Valley store, Running Wylder.
