If you ever wondered how to get a piece of furniture up a really narrow staircase (ours is basically a ladder), this is how you do it: you can’t do it. Instead you buy some really thick rope and hire a guy who isn’t afraid of falling.
Let me let you in on a secret: even with all these high tech devices in place, they still didn’t manage to pull it up there!

Went out for a walk in the morning, and it was freezing cold, but very pretty. Then, at noon, had ‘breakfast’ of delish pancakes at the Pancakes! pancake place. At 4 pm went to see Avatar. That is all.

A couple of weeks ago I got some lavender from the market – I past it several times in the last months and it always caught my eye, and so I finally decided to buy.

In the old town.

For a week, back in snowy and cold Warsaw. Or should I say freezing? I wasn’t prepared for this or maybe it was just denial, because I do vaguely remember seeing ‘Warsaw -9C’ someplace, in this long list of minuses and numbers and I think it was called something called ‘forecast’. Anyway, it’s cold. All I have with me is a leather jacket and I’ve been wearing a big sweater over it. I think the plan we have to go spend Christmas in Australia next year is a good plan. Sun, warmth, sea, swimming…none of that frost and ice stuff. I did go out to have some yummy gingerbread flavored latte and one or two cups of mulled wine, so at least that’s there. In the meantime, I hear it’s gotten colder in Amsterdam as well – I’ve put in a request to move the Lauri (my Bay Leaf tree) from the balcony to the kitchen. This is exactly the sort of weather that will have you roasting chestnuts over an open fire, I tell you. But I know, I know, it’s -40C in Canada someplace as I type this, so who am I to complain.

Inside:

Kladdkaka.
——————————
Recipe:
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
3 tbsp dark cocoa
1 cup flour (NOT self-rising)
100 g melted butter
Preheat oven to 175C. Mix the eggs and the sugar (I use vanilla flavored sugar) untill fluffy. Add 3 tbls dark cocoa powder. Add the flour. Mix in the melted butter. Ta da! Spread the thick batter into a baking pan – square or round, whatever you prefer – it’s supposed to be only a very thin layer (1.5 cm or 1 inch?). Bake for 15 – 20 minutes, untill crispy looking on the top, but soft and fudgy in the middle. Serve warm with powdered sugar and berries or orange slices, cream or ice cream.

This was taken a couple of weeks ago along De Clercqstraat. I was waiting for my bike to be ready to be picked up from the shop (someone broke my light).

Sights like this always fascinate me.
