Cat Background….

June 28, 2026

And then there was a problem to be fixed. Can you see what I’m referring to?

I thought I had a full skein plus a partial of my Soie Cristale for the background. Using the partial and my chosen stitch (Woven stitch) I jumped in and began from the bottom. When I had used up the partial skein I switched to the full skein…..🤯 THEY DON’T MATCH‼️

I checked the dye lots…they match BUT I didn’t notice that the color number was different by 1. 5136 vs 5137. It a rule that I don’t usually break….but they looked exactly the same until they didn’t.

Notice the lower left background area ….. I began with 5136 and now I’m trying to decide the best way to fix this….without frogging all I’ve done. I can tell that my thread is old…the price is only $2.90. So the chance that any one out there has any Soie Cristale # 5136 with a dye lot of 52191 is slim to none.

I’m considering frogging the right side down to match the left side where the color changes. I may have enough to stitch the center area to the same level and then work up with the lighter color. The biggest challenge to this is that I really need to stitch up the left and come around the cat tail and stitch down into the center so that everything matches, left, center and right.

So I’ll sit here and look at the problem and make a decision….make a decision….make a decision…..

Now for the background. I’m having trouble deciding on a background stitch. I have some thread that matches the canvas color…..but

  1. Do I want that same color since I changed the original painted colors?
  2. A background with a design…..or one that just lightly covers the canvas. Show canvas or not?

I keep looking at my small stitch books and I change my mind every time I look at them. 🤯

If you have a minute….give me your $.02 thoughts🙃🙃

Getting Close to the Cat Finish

June 10, 2026

I’m getting close to finishing my cats…. I hate to see a fun project approaching the finish line.

As I look at each section, I count the threads. Even number or odd number. Up and down. I don’t concern myself with side to side as those will be compensation threads.

I have used the very simplest of stitches. Cross, Smyrna, scotch, cashmere, tent…. It is amazing the number of stitch combinations that can be made with simple stitches. If you look closely you will notice the many combinations of simple stitches.

Now I am beginning to think about the background. I have thread that is very similar in color to the background. I want something simple……there is a LOT of background. I think it should be non directional….. if any of you have some suggestions I would appreciate them.

Until next time….. Happy Stitching 🌹🌹

More Cats . . .

Just a quick update

Quick Cat Update

May 27, 2026

I’m trying to post more often…..sometimes I just forget as I’m stitching to post.

These cats are such fun but also involve a lot of decision making. The black, grey and white cat is done. Do you think the cat needs an eye?

The biggest decision I had to make was the value balance. I changed my mind several times but I like the final result.

I’m just starting on the big cat which will be brown, gold/yellow and a touch of black.

I’m also beginning to think about the background. Since there is a lot of it….I think I might begin to stitch it along with the big cat.

Un-Named Cat….the Second Time

May 17, 2026

I did this canvas years ago and ended up giving it away. When I had the opportunity to buy it again I could not resist. It is such a fun design. The canvas is on 13” X 16” stretcher bars. The last time I did it I followed the multi colored design. This time I’m going to try my hand at using “cat colors” I think the small one will be black, grey and white with the large cat a tricolor…..

I pulled a basket of threads and will pick and choose as I go. I have a small stitch book I got from the ANG seminar in Houston, TX that I like. It is produced by the ANG Lone Star Chapter. It’s a favorite for small area stitches.

Here is where I am now…just completed the outline in black #8 pearl. This is not a stitch painted canvas so I had to make some decisions along the way.

My trip to North Carolina went well….but all too short. Meet the great-grandkids:

Miss Walker Kate aka Sissy 2 yrs 5 months
Mr Watson Charles 3 years 8 months

They are growing so fast. Both are little kids not babies anymore. I don’t think they really know who I am yet…. Maybe next visit.

While visiting my son, did not stay with the kids, we watched golf and I did a little stitching. Some of my favorite “design as I stitch” bookmarks.

My original designs

Spending Mother’s Day with my oldest son was a treat. It hasn’t happened in many years.

I hope all of you are enjoying spring weather and getting to sit outside and stitch.

More soon…..🌹🌹🌹
