Open Book Blog Hop – 22nd June

Welcome to another blog hop. Today’s topic is:

Do you wish you could travel the stars or the deep (oceans)?

I am the least adventurous person I know. Nothing would persuade me to travel down into deep waters. I don’t even travel on small boats anymore (nothing smaller than the Isle of Wight Ferry – deadweight 811 tonnes), let alone in a claustrophobic submarine. Not having gills puts us at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to surviving in water; the implosion of the OceanGate’s Titan submersible confirms this. Ever since feeling terrified on a rowing boat, aged about 5, sheltering under an overhanging tree during a terrible thunderstorm with my dad, I’ve found that small boats and I do not get along. I avoid going into the sea these days due to the sewage issues, and endure the 40 minute ferry crossing to the Isle of Wight because I love the island so much.

As for travelling to the stars, I’d rather look up at them from the safety of my garden. I couldn’t think of anything worse than being blasted into space on a rocket, and then wondering if I’ll be able to get back to Earth again. All I’d think of is the song ‘Space Oddity‘ by David Bowie, while I’m floating around in a most peculiar way.

Good luck to those who travel the stars and deep oceans, but it’s not for me.
