Applications, databases with public access, the Kubernetes API and the Miget Dashboard could not be reached from the internet, and outbound connections from workloads (calls to external APIs, webhooks, package downloads) failed. Workloads kept running throughout and no data was lost. **What happened** eu-east-1 reaches the internet through several upstream network paths. At 04:07 CEST, after a brief connection reset, one of these upstream paths started silently discarding our outgoing traffic. It still looked healthy from a routing point of view: every routing session stayed up and our address space stayed reachable from the internet. Because this path had the highest routing preference, nearly all responses leaving the region were sent through it and lost. **Resolution** At 07:59 CEST we took the faulty path out of service. Outgoing traffic moved to the remaining healthy paths and service recovered right away. We are working with the provider to find out why the traffic was discarded. **Why it took so long** Our failover reacts to routing sessions going down. In this failure the sessions stayed up while traffic was being dropped, so no automatic failover happened and the alerts we had did not catch it. **What we are changing** - Continuous end-to-end health checks on every upstream path, which take a failing path out of service automatically within about a minute, even when its routing sessions look healthy. - Out-of-region monitoring and alerting, so a region cut off from the internet still pages us. - More redundancy at the eu-east-1 network edge. - Making the current safe routing state survive reboots until the provider confirms a fix. The dashboard was not down. Customers could sign in, use the dashboard and deploy as usual, and incoming integrations such as GitHub webhooks were processed normally. The alert came from a fault in how we monitor the dashboard, not from a fault in the dashboard. What happened On 2026-09-27 at 18:47 UTC we released a dashboard update that changed how unauthenticated requests are handled. Before the change, any visitor who wasn't signed in was redirected to the sign-in page. After it, requests that don't explicitly ask for a web page get an "unauthorized" response instead of a redirect. We made this change on purpose so the dashboard's own background requests fail cleanly when a session expires. Our uptime check for the dashboard sends exactly that kind of request. From 18:58 UTC it received "unauthorized" responses and recorded the dashboard as down. Browsers were not affected: they still got the sign-in page as before. Why it took so long to resolve The check kept failing while every other signal (traffic, sign-ins, deployments, webhooks) looked healthy, so the alert was not treated as an outage. That was our mistake. A status page that shows an outage for four days, whatever the cause, misinforms customers, and we should have investigated and corrected it within hours. Resolution The uptime check now uses a dedicated health endpoint that reports whether the dashboard is up, regardless of how sign-in behaves. The dashboard shows as operational again. What we're changing - Dashboard monitoring now uses the health endpoint instead of the home page, so changes to sign-in behaviour can't trigger a false alert. - Any active alert on this page is now investigated promptly, even when other signals say services are healthy. - The uptime figures for these days are lower than the dashboard's real availability. We are leaving them as recorded rather than editing history. All worker nodes are back online, distributed storage is healthy with full redundancy restored, and workloads have rescheduled and resumed normally. What happened: An infrastructure configuration change modified a component that manages the container runtime on worker nodes. Applying it restarted the runtime, and on several nodes the runtime came back referencing a file that was momentarily absent during a concurrent reinstall - so the container runtime failed to start and the node dropped offline. Because the change rolled node‑by‑node, it affected several nodes in sequence before we halted it. Recovery: We stopped the rollout, froze further automated changes, and recovered nodes individually - restoring the container runtime and, where a node's storage client had wedged, performing a clean reboot. Each node was brought back one at a time with storage health verified between steps, so redundancy was never compromised. Customer databases performed standard crash recovery on restart. Data integrity: No data loss. Follow‑ups: We are excluding container‑runtime components from routine rollouts, adding a safeguard to prevent the runtime from starting when required files are missing, and moving these node‑level changes to a strictly one‑at‑a‑time, health‑gated process.
