I’m a long (long) time fan of Tolkien, since falling in love the Lord of the Rings in about 1983, and the next year that love was supplanted by the Silmarillion. I’ve been writing since I was 9, but only began writing fanfic in 2006, after a spell of role-playing scenarios on the old Proboards forums. I began writing a series in ‘06 and although the main series is finished, I am still writing within the ‘verse and also shared ‘verses with the lovely Narya_Flame.

I write mainly m/m and gen, or complicated poly-ships which are more like friends-with-benefits. I write a lot of OC’s and Alternative Universe.
I love drama, and epic storylines; my favourite canon characters to write are Fëanor, Fingolfin (or rather Fëanor/Fingolfin) and Maglor. Because I do not regard Elves as human, but more like Devas or gods, I have no problem writing incest.

I am a huge commissioner of art of both my OCs and some canon characters, which are mostly collected together on Fragments of Fate and Fire on AO3 and Faerie

Outside fandom I am a writer, too, self-employed and living in the UK. (I’m still a European and hating Brexit).

I’m a lover of the countryside, conservation, history, geography, maps! huge fantasy series like Malazan Book of the Fallen, the Dragonbone Chair, Kushiel’s Dart, etc. I also value peace and quiet, and nice, decent people (no homophobes, transphobes, racists, sexists, fascists etc are welcome in my life or personal space).

I play board games with my partner and friends, read 2 or 3 books at a time (and a lot of wonderful Fanfic) and write constantly. I’m interested in the ‘paranormal’, myths and legends, ghost stories, ‘Glitch in the Matrix’ type stories, sci-fi, and the ‘theory’of quantum physics (because who the hell can comprehend it?)

I’m a ‘She’ although for years I have known that my mind (or soul if you like) has no gender at all. I just have to put up with the current physical gender.

I always wonder why anyone would want to do this, but some people have written my OC’s over the years; the works are on AO3 although some were lost with Faerie.

Podfic: Yes. There are a few of mine on AO3.

If I was a published author, I’d be fine with fanfic as long as the characters were written in character because that means you’ve read the source material and are writing something that’s not in it. Same applies to fanfic.

OC’s and in’verse specific ideas: These include veryspecific things like: the Ancient Universe where the Elves were originally gods and punished by Eru for rebellion by being reborn into the Prime Universe as Elves, Vanimöré and the Elves attaining godhood and more; Fëanor destroying Melkor at Dagor Dagorath by becoming the Totality of the Flame Imperishable. The Anguish. The Mirror of Worlds. The Khadakhir.

These things make no sense out of context and aren’t fanon. Can’t imagine anyone wanting to use them really, but please ask.

I have a fannish next of kin set up and I absolutely don’t expect them to ‘vet’ anyone if I pop off, but in UK copyright law I do own my OC’s. I’m not a published author and have no clout really, but after a run-in with a person with an awful (and still googlable) history in a different part of the internet I would like to be asked. (It goes without saying that people I’ve known for years as fanfic authors and online friends have free rein. At time of writing two people are writing some of my OC’s).

I’d just like people to have read my work and understand the characters, not just ‘use’ them as that person did, ripping off all the things he couldn’t handle to make them stupid sex dolls. Pointless.

In the Silmarillion fandom we extrapolate what we know of characters from their actions mainly and sometimes their words but in the book they are not fleshed out. My OC’s are, and I’d just like them to be written as they’re presented, not just for slimy, repetitive badly-written porn.

No A/B/O or gender swap. No Harry Potter. No ASoIAF. Nothing like Verhalen/Dumptser Phoenix writes as that long-time predator is not permitted anywhere near me. It’s long to relate but I have a witness and there are also people in the fandom who remember him from before he came into the Tolkien fandom when he used a different name and damaged people for years. I received months of the most vile harassment for walking away from him for my own good and mental health. I have documents and screenshots and an email I sent to a Tolkien archive owner prior to my severing contact.

I asked for advice and predicted that if I walked away I would be seen as a bully as he had done the same thing to others before me. I felt like I was walking away from an abuser and despite his campaign of hate, I do not regret it. If I had not been in such a terrible place due to my mother’s death I would have sued him for defamation of character. So, though I have always been very easygoing about people writing my ‘verse and OC’s, he is not and never will be permitted.

I have not tried to comment on any of his fics, emailed him or harassed him via comments on my own fics (as he did to me). The last contact I had with him was in the spring of 2020 when I told him not to write in a ‘verse of mine I had not even explored yet, and that I would not be joining his DW community of ‘his’ ‘verse. I walked away because sometimes the person who has been abused simply has to cut all contact.
