Define "exact", "precise", and "sky positions" please. It may be helpful to just describe the application context. What do you have, in which grades of accuracy and precision, and what do you want to find out to which grade of accuracy?

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

Yes, I think somebody complained that Stellarium would not use automatically the Geforce GPU, and one of us (not me) added this switch. I would prefer to still be allowed in the driver settings panel which GPU should be used (e.g. when frequently on batteries). Maybe allow a config option for that, even just a hidden one? Most GPU applications are computer games. And apparently many gamers want to be filmed and stream their own playing time into the web for others to watch. Yet others apparently...

I agree, hilarious, or rather intimidating. Thanks, we will add a warning to the FAQ. What kind of nonsense is that, NVidia?

Stellarium (defined as "The classical desktop version of Stellarium") does not include a line of code to access a webcam. If you mean stellarium-web, please state so. Also, you did not tell us your operating system. On Windows I would check the system with anti malware tools now.

Not sure if any of this helps to force WIndows to run a program at the screen's native resolution when you first force Windows to not run the desktop at the screen's native resolution...? https://github.com/Stellarium/stellarium/wiki/Common-Problems-for-the-current-version#windows-gui-scaling

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

If you run it full-screen, it will run in the resolution the desktop is set to. What do you expect? If you fill in screen_(hw), you configure height/width. _(xy) configures position of the window inside your screen. This is all documented. You cannot run it at 4k on a FullHD screen (what for?). You can make larger screenshots, though. You can explore the new links like (200%) in your start menu.

I have given the answer weeks before you asked: The User Guide has details (search PDF for fps). According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time-lapse_photography, Time-lapse photography is a technique whereby the frequency at which film frames are captured (the frame rate) is much more spread out than the frequency used to view the sequence. while https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real-time_simulation states that Real-time simulation refers to a computer model of a physical system that can execute at...

If Hans is right and OP thinks that the desktop and mobile version are both supported by this team here, OP is wrong. This forum discusses the desktop version. We cannot discuss implementation details of other programs. The User Guide describes technical and usage details how it works.

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

So what? you have screenshots from 3 programs. What does a date -3080-03-22, somewhere between Neolithic and Bronze Age, mean to you? What was that date called at that time, or what would have happened at that time? Do you try to simulate Spring Equinox? Then just place the sun where it belongs. We have stated how we use such dates in our User Guide, appendix F.8. I don't know what other software shows.

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

What does this have to do with prEcession? Can you find out in which calendar system you are working? What is the ecliptical longitude of the sun on -3080-03-22, and what should it be according to your ideas?

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

Yes, I have seen it already. Makes life easier for some of us :-) I still have to add a note to the Guide, thanks.

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

It is not in Stellarium's built-in database, and only temporarily retrieved by online search at SIMBAD.

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

I entered RMC 136a1 in the search window. The automatic online query at SIMBAD identified it as BAT99 108 and Stellarium centered it. Having no idea what RMC 136a1 is, Google pointed me to a Wikipedia article about R136a1 which confirms these are the same.

Who will curate the list? Maybe make a "select surveys..." extra dialog which loads the whole list, and users can select the ~15 (?) favorites to be shown in the main dialog? The list will be stored in config.ini. The survey selected in the dialog must be immediately shown (like now), so the user will see whether it's good or not. (Hardly anybody will know from the name...) Maybe show two lists with some <-/-> buttons to move surveys between "displayed" and "suppressed" lists. But what happens if...

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

While thinking about new options, what about allowing several surveys at the same time, and mixing with customized colors? This would allow self-created compositions.

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

This, or maybe some kind of favorite mark? 1-3 stars or something, which get sorted to the top? Some surveys are great, other are very specialized and not really spectacular for most users.

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

These names (and all data of these nice surveys!) come from the scientific community and are not in our control.

Google for "error 126: The specified module could not be found". Sorry, this seems specific to your own PC and this week, or maybe also the air pressure in Singapore combined with humidity in Chicago, but many people have seen such problem. I would try to install all available (non-optional) Windows updates, reboot, and try again.

Dear Raul, please look into the Stellarium User Guide, chapter 9, for instructions, and see the 40 existing skycultures for working examples. The Lokono is an example of high quality that provides some ethnological context before describing the sky of this culture. You could aim to follow this example. Good luck! Georg

Which version of ASCOM do you have installed? The ASCOM support was developed for ASCOM 6.4, and the recent update to 6.5 apparently broke something. We hope to have that fixed soon, though.

v0.18 is indeed outdated, however low fps is probably unrelated. There is a deliberate fps limiter if you are running real-time (no timelapse), just to keep energy consumption low in the field. The User Guide has details (search PDF for fps). The logfile includes lines that identify the CPU. GPU, amount of memory, GPU driver version, supported OpenGL version and many other details. Not as hexcode but in plain English. Should there be a mention of "Mesa", all graphics is created only on the CPU. Of...

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

There ia a main thread, yes. But also some other activity. Define "slow FPS", and what are "low settings"? Insight is written in plain text in the logfile. If you have a Geforce, use it, sure. As long as you don't tell us your version of Stellarium, how could anybody answer your last question?

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

If you backup your personal folder, all settings should be preserved. The User Guide, chapter 5, tells you where these files are. It depends on your operating system.

There are algorithms (not in Stellarium [yet]) to derive Kepler elements from observations. Thats the right exercise here :-)

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

Edit ssystem_minor.ini and enter its Keplerian elements. If you have a trajectory (long list of positions, mapping effects of orbital maneuvres), you cannot currently display that in Stellarium. https://github.com/Stellarium/stellarium/issues/259

I cannot reproduce your problem. When I switch to a telescope that has eq. mode ticked, the sensor frame is aligned with the eq. grid and whirls around the celestial pole when I move the view close to it.

J2000 are "base coordinates" from which several corrections have to be applied. If there is any difference in the exact implementation of those - and you can be sure there is, given that they are independent projects - small numerical effects can appear. And if there is any typo or sign error in one of the many factors, there you go, acuracy goes down... Now, go and compare, line by line...

I see we have not mentioned them in the SUG. @alexvwolf?

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

It depends on te object type. For stars and Deep-Sky objects, RA/DE2000 are stored. For solar system objects, coordinates are computed on the fly. Further conversions are applied as needed.

Alright, 3s for the seasons is well within where I wanted to come :-) (Although of course all implementations of the same computational models should in the end lead to the very same solutions.) We have not solved aberration completely. I did some trickery for the Sun before the 2017 solar eclipse which may have helped here. But of course, all other planets still need a real solution. Help is more than welcome, finding time is always a big problem. It takes certainly a few weeks and a dedicated mind...

Wow, good observation! We have received a hint that a sign in the nutation formula may be wrong. Without a full test series I found no way to check whether changing this has any consequences. (Given the previous mismatch I had even concluded that maybe nutation has to be switched off for the seasons?) Apparently switching that sign does have observable consequences, and the new result is indeed much closer for a few test dates. That means, the tentative sign fix of the nutation formula can be confirmed,...

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

Why do you need to know?

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

The scripting API (link mentioned earlier) describes what is available. In principle, public slots of subclasses of StelModule are scriptable. searchAround() is not a slot: The return value of searchAround() is too complicated for use in scripts. Again, you may want to access SIMBAD with its direct API, not Stellarium, to get a list of all objects around a certain point. Please keep your questions related to your project in a single thread, and don't open related questions in new threads.

No, as this does not make sense for regular use. You may be able to develop a script that scans the screen every 5 pixel (imitating mouse clicks) and gather info for the closest star found there. Or make a screenshot, detect "stars" in the image, and sample for information at the identified locations. If you prefer, you can sample/analyse the Spout texture stream that looks like the screen. The informed (non ML) way to go would be just to use the original catalogs.

  • gzotti gzotti posted a comment on discussion Feedback

Stars are taken from catalogs which are freely available online. When displayed on screen, the mouse can be used to initiate displaying data in text format. Many other details are accessible in the open source files on Github.

Did you save your settings after configuring your location? Did you use the appropriate timezone like America/Los_Angeles (which would observe daylight saving rules) or just UTC-8 (which does not)? APT: As the APT instructions say, you must configure the RemoteControl plugin.
