    "Cheap but not great"

    Posted 2025-04-10

Pros: Cheap fees though they have gone up since we started using them.
Vanguard Index funds have the lowest expense ratios

Cons: No support for true-up contributions
Auto rebalance. No way to turn it off
No fund transaction records (these were recently removed)
Only see "All time return" with no option to change time frame

Overall: From a participant standpoint, their site is useless for anything other than seeing your current balance. We've used them for about 8 years now and their site just keeps getting worse.

"Fees have increased, customer serivce decreased, no new features. "

    Posted 2023-09-11

Pros: Integrates with Gusto payroll services.
Simplified 401k process through automated payroll deductions.

    Cons: Limited investment options.
No reporting options to show 401k performance.
    No retirement planning features.
    Pricing doubled.
No additional features or services have been added.
Customer service is difficult to reach.

Overall: Spoken with Guideline several times over the years and each time I am left with the impression that our company is more of a burden than an asset.

Last year they doubled their pricing, including adding fees for individual users. When I asked them what we received in return for paying more the answer was nothing.

Called Guideline today. After waiting on hold for over 10 minutes I accepted the prompt for a call back saying I would not lose my spot in line Several hours later I received an email indicating they received my message with a link to their help section while I wait.

So to sum it up, we are paying more, customer service has degraded, no new features or services, that benefit our company have been added (in years).

    "Makes benefits simple"

    Posted 2021-08-17

Pros: Guideline makes something incredibly complex feel really simple. Things are explained in plain terms and, even for a first time benefits administrator, it was easy to execute.

Cons: Some employees might not like that there's a required 1% retirement contribution.

Overall: Guideline was simple to explore, partner with, execute, and maintain. I'm really glad we found out about Guideline (through Gusto) as a retirement solution and we plan to continue to use them longterm.
