I open this feature request so you do not forget to implement it or maybe you decide not to implement it:

[1] netrik is able to open o local file compressed with gzip (or bzip2), but
cannot handle a gz-encoded file retrieved by HTTP. It should be able to,
and send according Accept-Encoding header.

[2] i've discussed it with the upstream author, here's his reply:

Well, this isn't as simple as it sounds, for two reasons:
- for local files, we can just invoke zcat or bzcat by the already
existing popen() mechanism (which was originally creating for
using
wget); for filtering a remote file, we would either have to use a
considerably more complicated invocation of gunzip, or link zlib.
- netrik doesn't have any MIME handling at all yet, so detecting a
compressed file wouldn't be trivial

It can be impelemnted nevertheless of course, if someone volunteers to
do it. (Just as the original gzip handling was contributed by an
external volunteer.) This would be especially worthy if it's done
"properly", i.e. with generic MIME handling.

I think it could be useful.

With local browsing when file is not found,
add extension .gz and try again.
If it fails, add extension .bz2 and try once again.

Off course support for transparent decompression
should be implemented, too.

HTML files are very compressable, so a lot of disk space
could be saved when compress them.

more detail error information.

When 'netrik http://slashdot.org', there are a bunch of:

HTTP header parsing error (unexpected character)
HTML error: Unexpected character.
No workaround available; ignoring.
HTML error: Unexpected character. (No valid reference after unescaped '&'.)
Using workaround.
HTML error: No matching start tag found.

Where is the error? what exactly the html code? With
more information, users/developers can better debug
html pages or the netrik itself.

If you want to print out error messages, please make the
error message more informative.

MIME support

Please eventually include MIME-support like, say, w3m: press "I" to view an image (through external viewer, using ~/.mailcap or /etc/mailcap).
