We're looking for 30 UK SMEs who want to calculate their employee commuting footprint - for free. Employee commuting can account for up to 30% of a company's total carbon footprint. But measuring it can be harder than it seems. The data doesn't exist anywhere in your business - the only way to get it is to ask every employee directly. Survey response rates for this kind of thing can be as low as 5%. And even when people do respond, turning inconsistent, self-reported answers into a reliable number for Scope 3 reporting is where things fall apart. So we built SkootCommute to handle it. • We build the questionnaire, tailored to your business • We chase every response with automated reminders until it's done • We turn the answers into a clean commuting emissions report - a usable number for your Scope 3 reporting We're now opening it up to 30 UK businesses with 20+ employees - completely free. If a client or tender has already asked about your commuting emissions, or it's just been sitting on the list for too long - drop me a message or sign up via the link in the comments. Greenhushing is the opposite of greenwashing.  Instead of overclaiming what you're doing for the environment, you say nothing at all - even when you're making progress. According to EcoVadis' 2025 research, 87% of companies are maintaining or increasing their sustainability efforts - but nearly a third of them are deliberately talking about it less. They’re doing the work, but staying quiet about it. The reason is usually fear. Fear of being called out, accused of greenwashing, held to a standard they can't yet fully meet. I understand that fear. I speak to sustainability leaders who are more worried about someone pointing a finger at them than about the actual climate problem itself.  But I believe that silence is doing more damage than imperfect communication ever would. When businesses stay quiet about what they're doing, others assume they're doing nothing. The pressure on competitors dissipates, the whole conversation stalls. And then the businesses that are putting in the effort get no credit for it. You don't have to be perfect to talk about what you're doing. Just be honest about where you are. Nobody's going to fault you for saying "we've measured our footprint, we're working on reducing it, and here's what we've done so far."

Employee commuting can account for up to 30% of a company's total carbon emissions. It's one of those numbers that surprises people - and understandably so. When you think about your business's carbon footprint, you think about energy bills, company vehicles, your office. Your employees' daily commute doesn't feel like your responsibility. But under the GHG Protocol, it counts as part of your carbon footprint (Scope 3, Category 7) - even though it's still optional to report, it's rarely optional to ignore if you want an accurate picture. Scope 3 Category 7 covers all emissions from employees travelling to and from work - by car, by train, by bus. And for a lot of SMBs trying to get a proper picture of their footprint, it's the missing piece. The reason it often goes unmeasured is that doing so requires data you don't naturally have access to - you have to ask your employees directly, and getting them to respond is its own challenge. What I’ve seen happen is usually some version of this scenario: HR sends a survey, people ignore it, things move on. That's the problem we're working on solving at SkootEco | B-Corp. I'll share more on this soon. Is this something you're currently trying to figure out?

Following on from our Greener Schools initiative in partnership with SkootEco | B-Corp, we visited Richard Barnes Academy again to bring everything together through a full day of hands-on learning and activity for the children 🌱 Despite relentless rain across both sessions, energy and enthusiasm never dropped. It was a real privilege to work with a local school, especially for some volunteers who once attended it themselves, making the day even more meaningful as they reflected on how much it has evolved 🌍

  • Your ESG programme can now fund itself. We've partnered with Zyntrix Ltd, an open banking payment platform, to bring sustainability directly into the checkout process. Our CEO, Greg Gormley, explains how the integration works ⤵︎

One of the biggest barriers I hear from SMBs when it comes to sustainability is cost. There's always something more urgent to spend money on. Which makes me even happier to announce the partnership with Zyntrix Ltd, an open banking payment platform. Here's what this integration does: Switching from card to account-to-account payments cuts merchant fees by up to 70%. Those savings can now automatically fund verified sustainability actions - plastic recovery, carbon reduction - at every transaction. Your ESG programme funds itself from money you were already spending. For SMBs, that's a pretty big deal - sustainability just starts being a byproduct of how you already do business.
