Weeding

A weed there, a weed here

the inevitability of weeding

I bend and pull, bend and pull

more breathing space for vegetables and flowers

movements, repetitiveness absorbs the time

engrossed in the rigor

delightfulness of ordinary task

on an ordinary day

a blessing when I don’t procrastinate.

Can you see the white egret?

More Questions

Do I have to count my steps to know that my world has changed?

Do I always involve all my senses whenever I go out?

Do I only remember what I experienced?

Would I remember what I imagined?

These seeds, these black pearls stir imagination.

My time warps

in gravitational universe

Where are you?

If time is ours

a long “sticky cuddle”

-a wide long think.

What is real?

What is controversial?

Did I open a secret?

Mutual learning exposed to the sun

shadows are temporary mists

everything becomes a borrowed book.

All toils

are not in vain.

If time

is ours

well, then

-a long “sticky cuddle.”

Significance

The creek joins the stream

Three streams merge with the river

A bear approaches the water

The river enters the sea

A celebration, meeting of the minds

What does it mean to have confluence, fraternity?

Pages of stories, collected moths

Should I write them down?

I ask my friend.

She laughs, then

Kisses me.

Just remember, she says.

Tide flows upstream.

The breeze carries scent of jasmine

From the forest, to the river, to ocean of consciousness

Reality and what we imagine

With enduring significance.

Eye and Bee

She longs for awareness

expansive reach of the eye

-wonders

Flowers

What is it to a bee?

-unimaginable

A leaf

What is it to the eye?

-a tree

note: All the photos were taken during my walk to the river today.

How Punctuations Travel

The beginning

a quesion, mark

-lines, untravelled

Like graduates

receiving their diplomas

a world waits

Reticence

when young and strong

-learning curve

Comma slips

line of words gets disjointed

-the sentence less traveled

But stars shine

light her way

-arrives at a wrong village

She memorizes

experiences

-tell them alternately

The line stretches

in complexity

-looking for comma

Like following

the rabbit in the rabbit hole

-confusion

Of all the punctuations

she likes comma the most

-gives her freedom

A comma is like forever

tracks a swift in the sky

-not always in straight line

Lyrical flights, long wingspan

where they travel

—extraordinary

After many long lines

perilous curves

-comma rests on a stone

The changing colors

the invisibles become visible

-a period, acceptance.

Staircase

Champagne bottle in one hand,

he bends down

picks golden covered dark

chocolate bars with the other hand

from each stair, with his empty hand,

empty? his secret,

fourteen steps, he bends

and picks,

upstairs she waits

with oysters-on-the-half-shell

how did she …

her secret.

(And I thought

prawns are messy).

The Girl on a Skateboard

A girl stands on skateboard on her left foot,

right foot pushing against the road intermittently,

lifts her foot settles it next to her left foot

and coast for a good distance

before she repeats the motion again,

headphones over her ears

enjoying music or a podcast.

Is she ready to disturb the universe

or preparing?

I continue my walk to the.river

the white egret May return.

On my walk home

I’m thinking of five butterflies

I saw along the river

the wings are pale

not like sunrise or sunset.

Above me in the trees small birds are talking,

on my right, a commotion,

a squirrel stops to glance at me

then runs away.
