Did you know? 💡 Copernicus is the Earth observation component of the European Union’s Space program. It provides accurate, timely and easily accessible information to improve environmental management, support climate change mitigation and adaptation, and enhance civil security. 🌍 SSC Space has supported the #Copernicus program since 2020, providing X-band data acquisition and S-band TT&C services from #Esrange Space Center in Sweden, Inuvik Ground Station in Canada, Punta Arenas Satellite Station in Chile and North Pole Satellite Station in Alaska. The baseline support has grown from around 640 passes per month at market entry in 2020 to more than 2,000 passes per month in 2026. ✨ Learn more at the link https://lnkd.in/gvGhrMcU European Space Agency - ESA Lasse Johansson

  • We're proud to announce that the European Space Agency - ESA has extended and expanded the SSC Space satellite ground station services contract of for the #Copernicus programme, the European Union’s Earth observation program, through March 2028. “The increased scope of the contract reflects the important role that commercial ground station services play in supporting Copernicus operations. It provides a solid basis for SSC Space to continue investing in the capabilities and global infrastructure required to support Europe’s evolving Earth observation needs”, says Lars Johansson, Business Development Director at SSC Space. The updated contract scales the X-band data acquisition service of SSC Space for Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 at Inuvik Ground Station in Canada and Punta Arenas Satellite Station in Chile from December 2026 through March 2028. It also prolongs the Sentinel-2A campaign at Inuvik and Esrange Space Center through 2026. “SSC Space has been a trusted contributor to Copernicus operations since 2020, providing ground station service that supports the acquisition of the Copernicus Sentinel mission data. This extension will enable the continued delivery of this service and additional capacity needed to support evolving program requirements”, says Franck Desbouillons, Copernicus Programme – ESA Ground Segment Acquisition Service Manager. The new race to the Moon isn’t just about rockets, landers, or lunar habitats. It’s also about something less visible, but just as critical: 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 📡🌕 As lunar missions become more ambitious, the ability to move larger volumes of data reliably between Earth and the Moon is essential. That means looking beyond legacy radio-frequency (RF) and toward the next generation of communications infrastructure, including optical technologies. SSC Space's lunar guy Greg Johnson shares his view on Earth-Moon communication, why the lunar ground segment is becoming a major enabler of the cislunar economy and what that means for the future of lunar and deep space exploration 🚀 Read the full story at https://brnw.ch/21x4NUr #LunarExploration #Moon #Cislunar #GroundSegment #Connectivity #SpaceTech

  • Supporting BepiColombo though its arrival at Mercury 🛰️ Nearly eight years after launch, BepiColombo is preparing for one of the most complex phases of its journey. At European Space Agency - ESA’s European Space Operations Centre (ESOC), SSC Space stands ready to help guide the spacecraft into the planet’s orbit. Since January 2024, we have supported BepiColombo operations. Now, as the mission approaches Mercury, SSC Space will engage with a carefully planned sequence of critical operations – including the separation of the Mercury Transfer Module, a series of Mercury Orbit Insertion maneuvers, and further key spacecraft separation events. This marks the culmination of years of preparation, dedication, and teamwork. And the arrival phase is not a single event, but several months of highly complex mission operations – working side by side with the broader mission team to help bring Europe’s first mission to Mercury into orbit. Every maneuver matters. Every burn counts. #BepiColombo #Mercury #SpaceExploration #ESA #JAXA In photo SSC Space Flight Control Team (from left): Alkan, Georg, Guillem, Corentin, Jesus, Fabian, Nicolas.

SALTO Test Campaign: Themis reusable launcher first stage prototype conducts a flight chronology rehearsal. On 23 July 2026, the reusable stage demonstrator #Themis conducted a flight chronology rehearsal at Esrange Space Center in Sweden. The ArianeGroup and SSC Space teams have reached a major milestone in preparing for Europe’s first flight test with recovery, known as the Hop Test. Each milestone brings ArianeGroup closer to its goal of giving Europe sovereign capabilities in reusable space technologies. This rehearsal, also called wet dress rehearsal, marks a key milestone in the development of the launch system, comprising the Themis demonstrator and the ground infrastructure deployed at Esrange Space Center in Sweden. The objective of the test was to simulate launch operations under cryogenic conditions, including pre-flight preparation of the demonstrator and its launch pad, as well as the system passivation that will be carried out after post-flight recovery. The rehearsal was conducted with liquid nitrogen replacing the propellants, liquid oxygen and liquid methane, in all cryogenic lines and tanks, enabling the simulation of cryogenic temperature and pressure conditions, as low as -200°C during the test. The chronology simulation lasted a full day for the duration of the countdown and the post-virtual-launch activities of safing the site. The test has provided essential data for the continuation of the SALTO project implementation and test campaign. The teams are now working to define the window for the next test. The test campaign in the scope of the #EU-funded project SALTO follows a test-and-learn approach. It relies on successive demonstrations to develop and mature the technologies required for reusability. Each milestone marks further progress towards reusable launch technologies in Europe. SALTO (reuSable strAtegic space Launcher Technologies & Operations) is a project funded by the European Union under the Space R&I work programme and implemented by the Space Research unit of European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA). Coordinated by ArianeGroup, the project brings together 25 partners from 12 EU countries, and focuses not only on performing a hop test, but also on maturing and validating a wide range of technologies for future reusable launch systems. The test campaign is being carried out at #Esrange Space Center. European Commission European Space Agency - ESA ArianeGroup SALTO
