## No per-screen fees: how metering works

You pay for bytes, not screens. This 1:29 film shows how the meter works, walks through the 100-screen example below, and covers the free allowance, prepaid bundles and the plans. [Watch it, with the transcript](https://screenrig.ai/videos/metering/).

<a id="what-it-costs"></a>

## What does it cost, and why pay per byte?

Standard is free. The first 10 GB of bandwidth, 1 GB-month of storage and 10,000 agent requests are included every month. Unused allowance doesn’t roll over.

Past that, you pay only for what you use. There’s no per-screen fee because each screen saves what it downloads and replays it from its own storage, so a looping menu uses bandwidth once, not every time it plays.

<a id="rates"></a>

| Usage beyond the allowance | Rate, every plan |
| --- | --- |
| Bandwidth, in and out | $0.09/GB |
| Storage | $0.14/GB-month |
| Agent requests and billed events | $0.0001 each |

Rates are in USD. Image generation is billed separately, by token; see [Image generation](https://screenrig.ai/pricing.md#image-generation). Standard’s extra usage is optional prepaid credit, in bundles of $10, $50, $100 or $1,000.

**Most fleets never reach these rates.** A looping playlist downloads once per screen, so cost comes from pushing a lot of new content, usually video. [See what fits in the free allowance](https://screenrig.ai/pricing.md#free-examples).

<a id="estimate"></a>

## Estimate your monthly cost

Your monthly bandwidth is roughly your library size × (screens + 1) × how many times a month the whole library changes. The first 10 GB and 1 GB-month are free every month; past that, apply the rates above.

<a id="free-examples"></a>

### What fits in the free allowance

| Fleet | Content | Replaced | Bandwidth a month | Cost |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Café, 3 screens | 20-slide menu, about 20 MB | Every day | 2.4 GB | $0 |
| Clinic lobby, 10 screens | 25 slides and a 2-minute video, about 100 MB | Every week | 4.4 GB | $0 |
| Store chain, 50 screens | 30-slide promo loop, about 30 MB | Every week | 6.1 GB | $0 |
| Video wall network, 100 screens | 2 GB of video | Every month | 202 GB | About $17 |

Estimates from the formula above, at about 1 MB per full-screen image slide and 75 MB for a 2-minute HD video, with the whole library replaced each time and the agent’s requests within 10,000 a month. A per-screen subscription bills every screen every month; here a screen that loops costs nothing to keep running.

<a id="example"></a>

### Worked example: 100 screens

100 screens share one 2 GB library at normal rates. Each screen downloads its own copy.

| Item | Calculation | Cost |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Store the library | 2 GB × $0.14/GB-month | $0.28/month |
| Upload it once | 2 GB × $0.09/GB | $0.18 |
| First download to 100 screens | 100 × 2 GB × $0.09/GB | $18.00 |

Initial transfer totals $18.18, plus storage. After that, screens replay from their own cache; you pay for transfer again only when content changes, a download retries or a screen misses its cache. These are estimates at normal rates before included allowances, request charges and image generation, not an invoice.

<a id="tiers"></a>

## Standard vs Premium vs Enterprise?

Every plan has the same product and the same usage rates. Paid plans add people, scale and contracts.

| Plan detail | Standard | Premium | Enterprise |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Plan fee | Free | $2,995/yr, one year in advance by invoice | $19,995/yr, one year in advance by invoice |
| Support | Documentation and support chat | Human support | Enterprise support (MSA, SLA, dedicated CSM) |
| Maximum screen count | 100 | 500 | Unlimited |
| Included usage | First 10 GB / 1 GB-month free each month | $100/month | $1,000/month |
| Bandwidth | $0.09/GB | $0.09/GB | $0.09/GB |
| Storage | $0.14/GB-month | $0.14/GB-month | $0.14/GB-month |
| Event history | 3 days | 7 days | 90 days |
| Ad serving fee | 30% | 20% | 10% |

Each plan’s screens, monthly allowance, included usage and credit form one shared pool. An upgrade adds the difference for the rest of the month; a downgrade or plan removal takes effect at the next month boundary. Paid support and service terms come with a separate written agreement.

<a id="upgrade"></a>

## When should you upgrade?

Most people never need to. Standard is the whole product, not a trial. Upgrade when one of these becomes true:

- **More than 100 screens.** Premium runs up to 500; Enterprise has no cap.
- **A person to call.** Every plan includes documentation and support chat; Premium adds agreed human support terms.
- **Longer event history.** For audits or troubleshooting: 7 days on Premium, 90 on Enterprise.
- **A contract.** Enterprise adds an MSA, an SLA and a dedicated customer success manager.

You can always see where you stand: the [dashboard](https://screenrig.ai/dashboard/) shows your usage, and your agent reads your remaining credit with `screenrig billing balance`.

<a id="add-ons"></a>

## Add-ons, billed separately

Two things sit outside the usage rates. Neither is required.

<a id="image-generation"></a>

### Image generation

`media generate` is billed per token: $10 per 1M text-input tokens, $16 per 1M image-input tokens and $60 per 1M image-output tokens. Quality (`low`, `medium` or `high`; default `medium`) changes both the result and the token count. Each generation reports what it cost. Image generation is metered separately from the free allowance. Uploading your own images and local composition cost nothing extra.

<a id="advertising"></a>

### Advertising

If you sell ads on your screens, screenRIG takes a serving fee from each paid play. Everything else is priced as above.

- **You set the price.** Choose a rate in credits per 15 seconds of completed playback, with optional per-screen and per-slot rates.
- **Advertisers pay only for completed plays.** Skipped or interrupted plays aren’t billed, and an ad slot with nothing to fill is skipped rather than shown blank.
- **The serving fee comes out of the seller’s side:** 30% on Standard, 20% on Premium, 10% on Enterprise. On a 100-credit play on Standard, the advertiser pays 100 and the seller keeps 70.
- **Earnings pay your screenRIG bill.** Ad-earned credits land in the paying wallet recorded at settlement and cover usage billed to that wallet automatically.
Settlement rules are in [the fine print](https://screenrig.ai/pricing.md#ad-settlement).

<a id="fine-print"></a>

## The fine print

Metering, balances, ad settlement and payment terms, in full.

<a id="credits"></a>

### Credits and metering

- Usage is counted in integer credits. One credit is $0.0001.
- Each agent or CLI API request and each billed event on an agent or CLI listen stream costs 1 credit after the first 10,000 in the month. The dashboard is free to use: its own requests and its live updates cost nothing.
- Messages to and from screens are free: toasts, single-screen reloads, screenshots, Player and runtime traffic, and `screen.*` and `runtime.*` events on the listen stream. Local composition is free.
- A fleet action, one `screen` command with `--tag` or several screen ids, is one billed agent API request however many screens it reaches, fleet reloads and toasts included. `screen screenshot --tag` makes one billed request to list the tagged screens; the captures themselves are free.
- Each webhook delivery attempt costs 1 credit after the same monthly allowance, like a billed listen-stream event. The same events are free: `screen.*`, `runtime.*`, `application.event`, `playback.page_failed`, and `agent.command`. An attempt refused before anything is sent is not billed.
- Playback export: each JSON page of plays or daily totals is one billed agent API request, and a CSV export is one billed request for its whole range. Plays are kept for at least 30 days, or the plan's event retention if longer.
- A gigabyte is 1,000,000,000 bytes. Bandwidth counts all traffic in and out.
- Credits stay with the wallet that holds them, and past charges stay with the wallet that paid them.

<a id="launch-offer"></a>

### Launch offer

Free to use within reason until 1 January 2027. The cutoff is midnight America/Los_Angeles. This is on top of Standard’s free monthly allowances, which are permanent.

<a id="agent-meter"></a>

### Your balance

Your agent can read usage and remaining credits. Until 1 January 2027, remaining credit is not a shutoff instruction: a low-credit warning doesn’t mean service has stopped. The service reports any real operation error.

<a id="ad-settlement"></a>

### Advertising settlement

- Paid ads spend purchased credits first, then ad-earned credits. Included, promotional and manually granted credits never pay for ads. Ordinary usage spends grants first, then purchased, then earned credits. There is no separate earnings wallet.
- A buyer activates a campaign by accepting a current, time-limited quote. When a play is scheduled, its quoted price is held; the hold settles only for a completed, authorized play and is released if the play is skipped, interrupted or unreported.
- The seller is credited the full quoted amount and pays the serving fee in the same settlement. screenRIG can change the default fees or apply an audited custom rate.
- If a seller changes their rate, affected campaigns pause until the buyer accepts the new rate.
- You can’t buy ads on your own network. Promote your own business with ordinary playlist content.
- Completed plays are reported by the Player and checked against the ad decision. They are not measured audience impressions, and screen count is not a guaranteed impression count.

<a id="bundles"></a>

### Bundles and payment terms

- Standard’s extra credits are optional prepaid bundles of $10, $50, $100 and $1,000. Standard never sends an invoice.
- Premium and Enterprise are invoiced one year in advance, and extra usage follows the agreed billing terms. The public rate card doesn’t create a paid support agreement. [Read the service terms](https://screenrig.ai/terms.md).

## Pricing questions

**Can I keep using screenRIG for free?**
Yes. Standard is the whole product and it stays free: no plan fee, no per-screen fee, and a monthly allowance most fleets never use up. Image generation is billed separately.

**Do paid tiers get better rates or more features?**
No. Every plan has the same product and the same usage rates. Paid plans add support, more screens, longer event history and included usage, and Enterprise adds an MSA, SLA and a dedicated customer success manager.

**What happens if my agent runs up a bill?**
On Standard, you decide: extra usage is optional prepaid credit, never an invoice. Until 1 January 2027, midnight America/Los_Angeles, usage past the allowance is free within reason too, and remaining credit is not a shutoff instruction. Premium and Enterprise overage follows the agreed billing terms.

**How are screens and kiosks metered?**
By total usage, not per screen. Each screen downloads its own copy of your content, then replays it from its cache. Agent requests and billed events have their own meter, and messages to and from screens are free.

**Is image generation included?**
No. Image generation is metered separately, by token. Quality affects the token count, and each generation reports what it cost.

**Where do I start?**
Ask your agent to install the official plugin using the Start guide, open the Player web app on your screen, and give your agent the pairing code. Standard is free, so there is nothing to buy first.

**Who pays what when an ad plays?**
The advertiser pays the quoted price for each completed play. The seller receives that amount minus the screenRIG serving fee: 30 percent on Standard, 20 percent on Premium and 10 percent on Enterprise.
