Hello! Today is a terrible, horrible, no good day and I hate that that's the way I'm breaking a month-long, christ, silence but there it is. I haven't actually been away, I've been wanting to post pretty much every single day and just haven't been able to muster up the energy to do so.

State of the me: I am at work, I am not having a fun day, I am still deeply into hockey fandom, mostly reading fic and watching games and listening to podcasts and reading blogs. I want to say that I read everything on my flists, still, but that would be a lie, sometimes I skim :( It's been a busy few months :(

State of the state: we have a government! It is... not nearly as bad as it could have been. I am confused.

State of the world: We also have a pope! Who is a George Bluth lookalike, which is not awkward at all.

Okay. I basically wrote exactly 1 fic in 2012 (/o\), and just the 3 purimgifts ficlets in 2013, which makes me undeniably sad but I have recently begun having hockey plotbunnies and I hope hope hope to write more soon. In particular I have a Passover hockey plotbunny, so like, please someone hit me over the head if I don't write it thank you.

Until that happens, here's what I wrote for Yuletide and Purimgifts:

An Unexpected Visitor (Parks & Recreation/The West Wing)
Words: 1700 words
Rating: PG, gen, no warnings
Summary: Pod!Chris arrived in town on December 21st, 2012. (Written for [personal profile] krabapple for [community profile] yuletide 2012.)

And for [personal profile] hagar_972 for [community profile] purimgifts, three stories that take place in the same place, which had different names in different eras (my how clever am I):

1. Gate of the Valley (Bible)
Words: 765
Rating: PG, gen, no warnings
Characters: David, Abigail, Joab
Summary: At the Gate of the Valley, a royal carriage breaks down.

2. Neveh Ilan (NCIS/The Voice (Israel) RPF)
Words: 1000
Rating: PG, gen, no warnings
Characters: Ziva, Tony
Summary: Ziva meets an old friend during a visit (home).

3. Bab El-Wad (Israeli Defense Forces - Anthropomorphic)
Words: 990
Rating: PG, gen
Characters: ...anthropormorphic IDF corps er
Summary: The corps wait around.

...as you may have deduced, my recipient was Israeli, which allowed for a bit of fandom flexibility/limit stretching. At least it got me writing again! I am telling you. HOCKEY PASSOVER FIC, IT WILL HAPPEN. Very possibly as a crossover even, shocker shocker. *fingers crossed*

Ficathon is over! :( Every year (for the past, uh, two years) I think about the work that goes into running an exchange and the timing for me schoolwise ant my head hurts, but then I read the things people write, and stalk comments to see what people write one another, and it is so worth it. There was so much awesome fic this year, in so many different fandoms! And every year it surprises me (in a really \o/ way) how many stories incorporate elements from Purim, because it's not a requirement at all – stories don't have to be about any holiday themed subjects – and still, the holiday gets mentioned, in such a variety of ways. I mean, theoretically I know there are endless ways to approach holidays in stories – Christmas fics are proof of that – and it's still pleasantly surprising to see it happen here.

Anyway, I have talked about the happymaking fics (in five fandoms!) that I got from [livejournal.com profile] copracat. My recipient was [personal profile] lomedet, and it was incredibly fun writing for her. All three ficlets are gen and pg-rated and about 1000 words long, and they are:

Masquerade: Idols in America -- American Idol/West Wing/Sports Night, Idol AU. Scenes from Sam's sendoff dinner.

Masquerade: A Night of Sports -- American Idol/West Wing/Sports Night, Sports Night AU. Where Cook and Margaret are BFFs, and Dana could really use a miracle.

Masquerade: The Whole Megillah -- American Idol, Bible AU. The Books of Esther retold, with Adam Lambert playing all the parts. (If you've ever been curious why it is we celebrate Purim but don't feel like reading ten chapters from the Bible or, you know, Wikipedia, this is a relatively short, mostly comprehensive, and liberally illustrated telling of the story.)

Some notes about the last one under cut... )

Aaaanyway, I have an exam tomorrow (yay) and a full few couple of days so it will take me ages to catch up on comments, but I love you all and thank you ♥.

PS I probably won't put up recs of my own beyond what I've already posted, but [personal profile] nextian's recs are awesome. And you can ignore the part where she recs me, I try not to be that tactless

(Whew doooone! Was supposed to be a drabble, dang it. AND NOW YULETIDE.)

Title: Post Lambert, Ergo Propter Lambert (American Idol RPF/West Wing)
~3300 words | Adam, TWW ensemble
Warnings: none, pg-13, gen
Summary: "You know we can't do anything about it," Josh said. "The White House does not call up Good Morning America and tell them who to put on their show."
Notes: My reaction to the GMA debacle (that apparently took a week to post, uh). A million thanks to [personal profile] thedeadparrot, [personal profile] amproof and [personal profile] leiascully for cheerleading and beta ♥.

(So, does the President support Adam Lambert?)

I posted this at ff.net a few years ago, and am reposting here for the first day of [livejournal.com profile] daysofawesome, while Rosh HaShana is still fresh in the mind; Gedaliah fic (which I can't believe I actually wrote) will wait for tomorrow.

The Virtues of a Pomegranate (West Wing)
(PG-13, ~1400 words, Josh, Donna)
Summary: It's Rosh HaShana and Josh decides to get festive. If you can call it that. All dialogue, Season 2-3-ish.

Also, Margaret slightly resembles a carrot. )

This was fun.

Title: Thrice as Nice (House/West Wing/Ally McBeal crossover)
Rating: PG-13
Summary: "What I'm trying to figure out is this: is she the evil twin because she's a hooker, or are you the evil twin because you're you? So hard to decide…"
A/N: I know I'm not the only one who watched her first episode of House and thought, "hey, isn't she from--?" Thanks to those who commented beforehand. Also, I kept the stupid joke.

You know when you procrastinate writing something by writing something else? Result:

Title: In The Shadow Of Two Canes
Words: 800
Spoilers: so tiny you won't notice them for Meaning.
Summary: They both wish the other was real. A House/West Wing crossover, except not really.

After three days, Abbey couldn't take it anymore. )
