Ahhhh things are starting to come back and I'm on this like, EMOTIONAL OVERLOAD OF FEELINGS.

Okay first, just to set the scene, this week the final part of one of my favorite hockey fics in the history of fucking ever was posted - a final 111k word chapter to a five-chapter fic that I've been following for two years, 300k words overall, and it was like getting a new Harry Potter book, if you know, HP books tore your freaking heart apart. (......oh wait, some of them actually did.) So then I had to find people to have feelings at, and you know, that was like 24 hours of an emotional roller coaster - still in progress, still it included basically forcing some RL friends to give it a shot, and I am still waiting on them to finish so I can talk about it some more. I do plan on making, like, an Official Rec of it at some point when I have enough wits about me to do it, but in the meantime, for those curious, it is this 300k Hockey RPF fic (with a 6k prequel) where Patrick Kane discovers he has a three year old kid and learns to parent and is really fucked up and loves her so much that sometimes it's hard to breathe, and it's about life and love and everything, ugh, sorry I get REALLY ANNOYINGLY INCOHERENT talking about it.

But anyway, yes: HOCKEY IS BACK. Like, almost. So so close to being back. Players are back together at training camps, preseason games started a couple days ago, the Blackhawks have their first preseason games today, tumblr is afresh with new gifs and new photos; you can smell it in the mid-night air (because that is how late I have to be to actually watch it). I'm not gonna use the word overinvestment, but let's just say today I found myself worrying about the fact that a bunch of players are starting the season weighing a few pounds lighter than they did last year. And by worrying I mean freaking out on chat.

ANYWAY. So then I needed something to distract myself from the terrifyingly disturbing production of Carrie I saw tonight, and remembered that The Good Wife was back! Guys. GUYS. THE GOOD WIFE. Omg. I love this show. Spoilers. ) Okay yes, so, I am happy this show is back on.

And in shows coming back, though it is a new show, Gotham! But it feels like another season returning - familiar characters coming back to my screen through TV instead of through comic. So I have no idea what I'll ultimately feel about this show, but there are so many characters it's just such a joy to watch coming to life onscreen: spoiler/liveblogging of the first episode )

So just to like, round it up, for the record I'm also watching Outlander and Masters of Sex. Because that was like, important to mention right there.

...okay then.

I was going to do the secret name meme, but man, it's haaard! So, tomorrow. Or something.

In the meantime, these Batman webcomics by [livejournal.com profile] the_dark_cat may just be the cutest things I've ever seen. It's daddy Batman and the Robins, and eeeeee. So. Cute.

Title: And Then the Heroes Came Along (PG-13, gen)
Fandoms: SGA and DC Comics, but all you need to know is who Superman and Batman are.
Words: ~5700
Summary: You would think that grown men would be able to interact with Superman and Batman without turning into thirteen-year-old girls. You would be wrong.
Notes: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] perspi, [livejournal.com profile] wondygal, and [livejournal.com profile] thedeadparrot for handholding and going over and especially to [livejournal.com profile] bironic for the beta. If this sucks in any way, it's because of me, not them. This fic is for [livejournal.com profile] marag, just because.
Warning: One image file at the end. ETA images: And [livejournal.com profile] sabrina_il made me a cover! Which is so pretty, thank you :-)

Superheroes on Pegasus and entirely too much inadvertent meta. )

So I've been reading comics, as you know, DC, and I have to share some frames that cracked me up. Or were awesome. With no ado whatsover, images under cuts:

The fanboy )

The writer's trick )

The disciplinarian )

The pun )

The random Superman one )

The Jewish angle )

So I should probably get a comics icon someday.

Screw the dog and her constant need to get in and out of the house and my need to constantly close and open doors for her and being too lazy to do it - from now on I am closing the screen door. Because.

Look what crawled into my shoe. )

Thing discovered while writing this entry: Photobucket have changed their site so that it's much, much, much quicker to upload! Instead of selecting individual pics you can use the ctrl key and upload a bunch at once. I am happy.

Thing realized earlier today while musing over my recent Batman kick: My army unit may have been lame and boring and kind of impotent, but it was also ten shades of awesome, because guess what our symbol was? That's right. A JEWISH BATARANG. Pic under cut. )

I even have a little bat-puppet sitting on my stereo. All these years, and I never even named it Bruce. Such a loss.

Forget all that studying crap, the internet is too brilliant and it is time for recs:

The Kids Aren't All Right by [livejournal.com profile] samdonne - Iron Man, gen, wow. I got to the fic through thefourthvine's rec which you should read because it's better than mine, but the gist of the fic is: it's written as a Vanity Fair profile on Tony Stark, an outsider's perspective that understands his psych and the human psych in general and our times and politics so deeply that if I were ever to ever write Tony Stark fic, the only resource I would need is this fic. And as someone whole loves superheroes basically for that one secret-identity revelation moment and its consequences, this fic is all about the consequences. It's also written by the same author who wrote Your Cowboy Days Are Over (Mammas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys), which I've also recced in the past, so that shoudl tell you something about the quality of this author.

Okay, so I've been on this Batman kick? Ever since I saw The Dark Knight, but more recently since [livejournal.com profile] thedeadparrot recommended Gotham Central, a short-lived comic series about the Gotham City Police Department that touches on their love/hate relationship with Batman, which basically feels like a police show/Batman crossover. ANYWAY, so, Batman. Now, you're gonna think I'm an idiot, but I've always been squicked by the idea of Bruce/Dick because I knew Robin was a kid and they had a father/son relationship? But it turns out Dick Grayson turns into NIGHTWING - and okay, I know that anyone remotely interested in this rec would have already, but I DIDN'T - and their canon relationship is... really fucked up. Anyway, BATMAN/NIGHTWING FTW, is what I'm saying, but more to the point, READ THIS FIC: Apart from what we wish and what we fear by [livejournal.com profile] elynross, 22,000 amazing words of Bruce/Dick and how it finally happens. Look, I'm pretty new to this pairing and fandom, but I'm pretty sure that if there had do be a definitive fic for this pairing, this would be it. It's touching and hot and satisfying and squee-inducing. As are the author's other fics, which is often the case.

And for the Tony Stark/Bruce Wayne I have craved since seeing both movies, [livejournal.com profile] thedeadparrot has written this awesome little drabble that is awesome.

To conclude, I know some have you have recently gotten into the sitcom that makes everybody want to burst into a thing-that-bursts (not puddle, right?) of gleeful squee because it is AWESOME and LEGENDARY and also - wait for it - EVEN MORE AWESOME, so below the cut I'll link to some fics I remember loving, even though you've probably read them because HIMYM is such a tiny fandom and almost everything is good. HIMYM recs under cut. )
