Hey!

I saw the British production of The History Boys on Broadway last summer, and last night I saw the Israeli version and was very impressed: other than the language, everything was exactly the same, and the acting was superb. The only thing that was slightly lost in translation was one of my favorite quotes, Posner's: "I'm Jewish. I'm small. I'm homosexual. *pause* I'm fucked." In Hebrew, they translated fucked to dafuk, which can mean both fucked or fucked up, but sounds more like the latter. Other than than, though, three cheers for good local adaptations of good shows.

Those of you who don't live here may not know that the Israeli student union has been leading a strike ever since Passover vacation, which means I haven't been to school for... five weeks now? I dropped by the university today just to make sure that the strike was actually existing in reality, instead of just in the press. My lecture hall was locked; I took that as a yes.

Now I'm finally getting off my ass and doing something instead of whiling away the time by thinking hard about studying independently but not actually doing anything (which is an effort in itself, albeit a lame one): I'm going to go down south and help out in a film production for a few days. Not just south, but five minutes from my former base, which I admit was the first thing that drew me to the project, even though I only know a few people who still serve there. The only things I know about this production is that it's filmed in a Bedouin village and that there will be British people (yay!), and even though my job will amount to being what in ancient times they called a slave, I'm excited.

It also means that I'll be without internet for a few days, which is not a bad thing. It also means that I won't be there for the Remix author reveal, which... well, I'll have to think what to do about that. But I will once again thank my own remixer, who I am guessing starts with a k and ends with an l and that is all I'm saying on the subject :-)

I haven't been to the Beer Sheva train station in over a year; I really am disproportionately looking forward to this. Off to pack a bag my bag now, and cross my fingers that the strike will last till the end of the week.

ETA: What the hell, I'm leaving so I'll just do this half an hour early and face the wrath of... whoever cares. The Remix fic I wrote was Hi, Ma (Sunrise, Sunset Remix), which is a remix of [livejournal.com profile] deelaundry's fic Hi, Mom. I had lots of fun writing it, I am full of wonder whether anybody guessed, and I will reply to comments and write more about it when I get back. Also, I was totally dumb enough to actually reply to Dee's comment without clicking on 'anonymous', so I doubt this was much of a surprise, for her at least :-)

Good luck! And even if the strike ends, you can always claim ignorance. "I was without news! I had no idea it ended!" or the such.

The strke will probably end in two days. Me = sad. Also me = have so much homework to complete by the time school starts again...

You wrote an awesome remix, man! And all you had to say was, "No, really, think about it," and I figured it out. Heh. Have a good time! See you in a few.

I had a great time! And thank you. And I knew it wouldn't be hard to spot - both my remixed fic and the one I remixed ended up the Jewishest fics in the House section.

HEE!

I'm so pleased that you like the story. I had a ton of fun writing the remix -- you gave me so much great stuff to work with. And of course the moment I saw I'd been assigned to remix your work, I knew instantly which story I wanted to remix!

Seriously -- it makes me really happy that you like the story, and that you caught all of the little hidden holiday resonances. Yay!

And I was so excited when I started suspecting you were the one who was remixing me, because I couldn't wait to see which story you'd pick and how you would spin it. If you're interested, I actually started suspecting the day after assignments were handed out: I suddenly got a comment from you o a story I'd written a few weeks previously. And while you might have reached it accidentally, well :-) I had just starting going over all of my remixee's fics and had to hold myself back from commenting on them so as not to raise suspicion. And I did the math - we have a few fandoms in common, and I wasn't sure which one you picked - but then I read the remix, which was not only Cuddy and Jewish but incredibly detailed - and that more or less clinched it :-)

More on the remix later in your journal.

You know, last year my remixee guessed I was her remixer because I suddenly friended her lj right after the assignments went out. So this year I intentionally didn't do that -- but I hadn't thought about how leaving sudden lj comments could also be revelatory... *g*

As soon as I started reading through your oeuvre, I knew immediately which story I had to remix -- I mean, how often do I get the chance to really explore a character's canonical Jewishness in that way? And in the process, I became even more fond of Cuddy; I feel like I know her in a whole new way now, which is cool.
