Okay, I enjoyed my yuletide gifts so much that I actually thought I might be disappointed by the rest of yuletide, but of course I was wrong, because there is so much excellent fic this yuletide, and I haven't even read a quarter of my Marked to Read tabs. I will maybe make a rec post but unfortunately don't see that happening before reveals, nor, it seems, on reveals: yesterday my mom invited me to spontaneously join her on a weekend trip to Belgium to visit my sister, and I got it cleared from work, so apparently that is where I will be this weekend! What I gather from texting is that my sister is just as obsessed with Hamilton as myself, so I foresee a weekend full of singalongs, mostly.

So - yuletide recs, er, hopefully next week (but I'll just mention the two Hamilton RPF ones, they really are as good as everyone's saying), and for now just talk about the fics I received and, have I mentioned loved? LOVED.

I can still hardly believe this fic was written, like, god bless yuletide and this author. So - this one's for people into hockey and/or kink and/or open relationships. About the fandom: Straight Shooter is a BDSM hockey novel about a college hockey player, Austin, who knows he's into some forms of kink, starts to maybe question his straightness, and turns to professional dom (and porn star) Liam for help in figuring it out. Spoiler they get together in the end. The original novel portrays this really great mentoring relationship that eventually turns from professional to intimate (with everyone's awareness and consent etc!), and also, you know, a lot of hot kinky sex. That said - you totally don't need to have read the novel to read the fic!

The fic is a 24k word sequel to the novel, that perfectly captures the character's voices and the dynamics of their relationship, now with Austin graduating college and moving away, and the challenge becoming not only maintaining a long distance relationship but also how to get Austin's needs filled while they're apart. The story isn't so much about the long-distance itself as it is about how they prepare for it together, and it's so wonderful, and super hot, and just a satisfying read about a college player showing emotional growth and maintaining an adult relationship (and also getting dommed). If you like this, you can go back and read the novel; if you liked the novel, you will definitely like this. I do think it can stand alone as a story, and I am just so happy it exists <333

Panthers ficcccc! I'm not sure how to rec this since like, if you're in hockey fandom, my rec is just GO READ THIS RIGHT NOW IT'S ADORABLE. If you're not, but you're a person who might be intrigued by an OT3 that's about a 19-year-old rookie (YUP THAT DUDE IS 19) who lives with his captain and captain's wife, the three of whom have a seriously adorable relationship (not required reading but so cute), in a story that is cute and funny and delightful about them getting together, you should try it out :D

...and now it's 5AM and I will basically die at work tomorrow, but this was worth it.
