First, a quick recap of tonight's season finale of Srugim for those interested, following up on the plot I posted about earlier this week. Well, last week Roei and Reut broke up. Roei was very clearly having second thoughts; there was a scene where they were both sitting at this outdoor pool in nature, and two [male] hikers stripped down and frolicked in the water and Reut and Roei both watched them. Reut sneaked a few glances at Roei, and it was kind of awkward because it was clear he was watching, and she's a really sweet girl and later told him I wasn't, I'm not testing you or anything, I trust you -- but he was clearly hesitating. So Reut told him, Remember, you promised you'd tell me if you changed your mind. And he doesn't want to, but he tells her, and they break up.

This episode they had separate plots. Reut's was about her buying an apartment. She hears two guys discussing this place that sounds awesome; she goes over there, bargains with the owner and makes a deal on the spot, buying it for $285K and giving him a $10K advance on the spot, and I was so proud of her ♥. Later she asks Yifat -- have I lost my mind? Why am I buying an apartment? and Now I won't know if a guy wants to marry me because he likes me or he likes that I have an apartment, because this is her life. But Yifat asks her, does she like the apartment? And she does, so much. So she keeps it.

Meanwhile, Roei's buying a jacket for his father's wedding. He gets some advice at the store from this random Hot Dude named Avshalom (=religious), who also reveals to him that the jacket he's about to buy is over 1000 shekels. Roei lets it go with disappointment, and then the guy tells him, Listen, I have a few spare tailored jackets that I almost never use. If you want, I can lend you one for the evening. Roei is hesitant, and Avshalom tells him, I'll be at the cafe at the corner of so and so all afternoon tomorrow, and my apartment's just nearby. Think about it, the offer stands.

Roei ends up taking him up on the offer and meets him at the cafe. And Roei is so nervous. He sits down next to Avshalon and orders a glass of water; Avshalom is with his head bowed so the kippa's showing, and he's murmuring a prayer into a prayer book, and he's friendly and cute and Roei just stands up and balks. I'm sorry, he says, I just remembered I have a thing this afternoon, I'm sorry. And the guy gives him a long look, and says, You can't run away from it, and Roei looks like he can't breathe. What? he asks, and Avhsalom repeats what he said kind of sadly, and Roei turns around and leaves. And god, this kid, he's such a good guy, good and nice and successful, and he was born into this society and he just doesn't know what to do with it; there's no way for him to reconcile his faith with being gay, and even when he wants to act out on it, there's just -- too much fear.

And then the next scene. He's with his father, helping him choose ties, and his father asks him about his brother, Nati. Roei tells him that Nati was seeing someone but they just broke up, and his father says, Oh. Do you think there's -- with Nati-- and Roei says, What? and his father says, I think he's gay. And Roei is stunned, and very carefully keeps his expression from changing, and says, You do? And his father says, Look at him; he's a successful, charming, good-looking doctor. Why else hasn't he gotten married by now? To be honest, I've come to terms with it. And Roei is still shocked, and he tells his dad, I don't think Nati's gay, and his dad says, If he ever talks to you about it, you'll tell me at once, right? and then, it's important that he knows his family will still love him.

And, man. Although I am positive beyond doubt such families exist, it's still a lot of very idealistic wishful thinking. But sometimes we need to see some idealism on TV, and I can't say it wasn't a breathtaking moment, seeing Roei's expression.

Later, Roei and Nati are sitting on the steps of the hall where their father's getting married. They talk a little about Nati's latest girlfriend and their break up, and then: Dad thinks you're gay, Roei tells Nati conversationally. Nati lifts his eyebrows. Really, he says. Yeah, Roei says wryly. He wants you to know he's accepted it and still loves you. Nati smiles a little and says, So, what are you going to do about it?, and Roei gets up and shrugs and says, Same thing I've always done, and gives Nati a hand to hoist him up, and Come on, let's go see our father get married.

The episode ends shortly after, and, well. I'm going to miss this show a lot. It was the only show I actually watched on TV in real time instead of downloading, LOL. I hope they film a third season. All in all I think this season was a little weaker than the first, but Roei's storyline more than made up for it, for me.

And now the real point of this post:

Music! I have been in a music mood today. Not just because my fandoms for the past year have generally been music fandoms, but also because I read the Time Out interview where Ivri Lider interviews Tzipi Livni and guys, it turns out she's a drummer. How fucking cool is that? She's been taking lessons recently with Rockfour's drummer, and man. We could have had a drummer Prime Minister. I'm sure other world leaders play instruments too; I am somehow absolutely sure they could have had this epic jamming session and brought about world peace and that the fact that Bibi won the elections has robbed us of that forever.

Um, but anyway, lyrics meme! Because those are always fun. I put my iPod on shuffle and copied the first lines of every song, censoring the ones that started with the song titles because it was getting ridiculous. I didn't cheat and skip, so there are some repeat artists in there! Hint: my iPod has 8GB and has the entire Beatles catalogue on it, so if you don't recognize the song... chances are it's the Beatles.

So, guess away:

I am being mean and making this an either/or choice, but feel free to elaborate in the comments. I am taking it for granted that most people's favorite artists and songs have both amazing music and amazing lyrics that blend together amazingly, and obviously that's the ideal situation for everyone. But a couple levels below that, what does your brain prefer over the other; music or lyrics?

(Alternately, as was eloquently phrased in the comments by [personal profile] blackmare, what drives you more insane: dumbass lyrics or crappy music?)
