Panic! in London!
Feb. 1st, 2012 01:03 amSo I may have failed to answer your wonderful, wonderful comments on my last post, but thank you so much for the encouragement and validation and I am GOING TO LONDON. I angsted and angsted, and my boss said "you can go if you take just one day off", and then I double-checked she was still cool with it and she CHANGED HER MIND and there was a LOT of angst of the what-the-fuck-am-I-doing-at-this-job-that-I-don't-love-earning-money-if-I-can't-use-it-to-do-the-things-I-DO-love kind, and then, half an hour later, she changed her mind again! So on Friday morning I bought the flight tickets, and yesterday I managed to get a standing ticket to the show, and so I am flying in two days *___*
On the bad side, I have been working my ASS off this week trying to make up in advance the work I'm going to miss because I'm grateful to my boss for letting me go, which is kind of crap because I have vacation days and shouldn't ACTUALLY be staying in the office until 10PM, but my brain is kind of fucked up and tired and overworked right now. So it's been an exhausting week, and unfortunately it's also come at the expense of
purimgifts, which, ha, still not live. I will try my hardest to get it live tonight.
On the bright side: LONDON. PANIC. LONDON. MEETING PEOPLE. :D! It has done me so much good, spirits-wise, making this decision and buying the tickets and just going with it, that I really can't regret it, and don't regret the cost. I just feel so good about this, of taking this break and doing this thing I want to do just for me and not holding out for rewarding myself for when I get everything fixed in my life. I have't taken any vacation days in the over a year I've worked in this company (sick days, yes, errand days, but not a real vacation), and I haven't traveled abroad at all since last summer, and just thinking about cold London air is making me ♥.
My plans are basically:
*Land on Thursday noon (around 12)
*Arrive at the venue at around 5:30PM? Doors open at 7:00, I hear there are lines for this sort of thing? (advice welcome!)
*concert, then
sunsetmog!
*be in London on Friday!
*be in London on Saturday!
*possibly catch a musical during one of these days! (Sat matinee?) Or try and catch Leronardo Da Vince at the National Gallery. OR BOTH.
*leave for the airport at about 6:30PM for my 10:30 flight back Saturday night
SO. Given that I don't have a LOT of time in London, but certainly some, I would love to meet some of you while I'm there, and also just in general get recommendations for local stuff that I might not have heard of; consider that I've been to London before and have done the big touristy things, but I still LIKE big touristy things like museums and castles and cool exhibitions, but I also like small local stuff, or just walking around, especially if it means getting to hang out with people :D
This is probably the worst time to post given that it's almost the end if the day in the UK right now, BUT OKAY SO: questions!
1. London questions:
--will you be in London this weekend? Do you want to meet up? If so, since this is kind of last minute coordination, please comment/email/PM me your contact info (email/phone/skype). I'll have my regular phone while I'm there, and internet where there's wifi.
--Do you have any recommendations/tips for places to go, events taking place this weekend that I shouldn't miss, anything?
--oh god how warm do I need to dress? It's going to be like 1 degree. It was over 15 degrees here today. Meep?
2. Panic/concert questions:
--Will YOU be at the show?
--Brixton Academy and dSLR cameras: y/n? Will they let me in? How can I convince them to? What will happen if I try to smuggle it in? Will there be a place to check my bag/coat and is it safe?
--How early do I REALLY need to be there to have a decent place in line?
--CAN YOU SEE SPENCER WELL ENOUGH FROM DALLON'S SIDE OF THE STAGE
--ummm any other tips?
So that is that. I'm sorry this was so long and uncut! I'm sorry that sounded like a dick joke! I just. This is what their shows have been like lately, okay. And I am going to London. I am the definition of excite <3 \o/
