Ummm...
From Action Comics #835:

I actually have no idea what the context is. This takes place a few issues before One Year Later, and I only read it to have some background before reading those, skimming for the interesting bits, and then... well, this was interesting.

So: who are these people? What do they have to do with Jimmy Olsen? What is up?
Bonus: Apparently, according to Wikipedia, the DC "Guardians of the Universe" were modeled after David Ben Gurion, which does not fail to crack me up. I don't know it it's true, but come on, it's totally true:

Also, c'mon, comics are filled with Jewish allusions, it's just a matter of time when they put in actual textual Jewish ceremony and not just characters.
Superman was created by Jerry Seigal and Joel Shuster, Batman was created by Bob Kane (nee Kahn) and Stan Lee created a bunch of Marvel characters.
We rock ;P

I don't know, I spot them here and there, but hardly as outright as this. I just love (or am freaked by? not sure yet) the image of Superman wearing a kippah.
And yeah, I knew about the creators - even though Kahn isn't necessarily a Jewish surname, but I'll trust you - but that has no bearing on the content of the comics themselves. (I'm guessing it was a good couple of decades at least until they started having said allusions...)
I love the ending, when she isn't satisfied with his Superman's appetite. Sounds about right :-)
ETA: Also, I just noticed that they got him GRAPE JUICE INSTEAD OF WINE. Oh my god, Superman.

So, Jimmy has some Jewish family? Who'd a thunk it.

Also, hee, I love "should I offer to take off his cape?", which I just noticed. I think the first time I read it I only kind of stared at all the kippahs, and I'm only now getting all the jokes.

I mean, I love Batman, but the Bats is a nutjob, no doubt about it.

Actually, though, my favorite by a wide margin is Nightwing, the Former Boy Wonder himself, Dick Greyson. How he managed to stay so normal while being raised by Bruce is beyond me. Of course the fact that he looks really good half naked and chained up does nothing to hurt his appeal.

Nightwing is nghhhhhhh. Awesome. Esp. Nightwing/Dark Knight slash. HOMG..

That said, one of my favorite Nightwing stories is one where there is a nuclear bonb threat in NYC and the teen titans respond. Dick being Dick, he tows it out into space because he doesn't want any of the other team members to be in that kind of danger and the thing blows up.
Bruce being Bruce, he reassembles Dick's molecules but it doesn't quite work. Because Dick is now dickless. The story is currently something like 80 chapters long and isn't even close to finished. I'm not sure it ever will be. Anyway, what I love about it is it's a very realistic look at what would happen if you had an unwanted sex change operation, from having to relearn how to go to the bathroom, to dealing with the fact that you're a foot shorter and have a different center of gravity. Bruce is, of course, totally thrown, because all of a sudden his "son" is a hot 23 year old girl and Dick does't understand why Bruce is behaving so weirdly.
And that was a total ramble.

...pretty much that you are awesome. I love that no matter how much Clark idolizes Lois and is willing to move heaven and earth for her, beyond all reason, in a totally excessive and obsessive way that has led to some level of destruction - even then, she's never (well, from the little I've read) a pristine woman-to-be-rescued that he keeps on a pedestal. She's still Lois, who... bosses him around and buys him lunch and is a much better reporter than him.
my favorite by a wide margin is Nightwing
Ditto. And it really, really sucks that i've finally started reading issues from the past two years and the characterization is weird and the art is butt-ugly. It really makes me cringe.

If you're interested, I can hook you up with some great fic. For whatever reason, I don't have any interest in comic slash for the most part. I tend to prefer stories that have action along with great character interaction. (Although my favorite Nightwing story may be heading toward slash, sort of, assuming the author ever finishes.)

Supe is also a dark-haired immigrant, if you will, with a secret history, who adopts a meek persona to fit in (a bespecled writer -- how Jewish is that?), which alternates with every meek, immigrant Jew's fantasy identity: the powerful hero.

I remember reading that the Clark Kent character was partially inspired by Harold Lloyd, which really made sense to me, since the first time I ever saw Lloyd I thought "whoa, Clark Kent".
I really need to read The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, to get a sense of the beginning of the comics industry, be it fictional or not. It's fascinating.

But I think the real question is, how the heck does Supes know about Shabbat in the first place?!
Re: Here via stilljewish...
I know! I mean, he's Superman, so obviously he knows everything about everything, but I can't help but wonder where that comfortable "I'm familiar with kiddush" came from.

And I mean, GRAPE JUICE. That's what the kids drink at the seder! Okay, so I still drink it to this day, but. I love how he they all feel he shouldn't set a bad example by drinking wine in front of the... old Jewish couple who want to do kiddush :-)
