Ha ha comics. Spam.

So I've been reading comics, as you know, DC, and I have to share some frames that cracked me up. Or were awesome. With no ado whatsover, images under cuts:

1. This just in: Batman watches Buffy!

Photobucket

2. You know that writer's trick, where something makes no sense so you just have the characters acknowledge it? Here's one that cracked me up:

Photobucket
An astounding bit of information indeed, lol.

Another one, from Superman: Birthright, where Clark is packing up for Metropolis for the first time:

Photobucket

3. --no words.

Photobucket
If I got a car for every time I was late, I'd be Jay Leno. Why wasn't I disciplined this way?

4. Because I LOVE lame puns, and this one was written for me:

Photobucket
WHY didn't I think of it first.

5. Another one from Superman: Birthright, just because I can totally see this and love the moment - Clark whispering under his breath the first time he reveals his Superman costume.

Photobucket

6. The Jewish angle: Tim kicks some ass, and a robot speaks Yiddish.

Photobucket

Photobucket

So I should probably get a comics icon someday.

Heh. That Outsiders bit kills me every time :D And comics are just so full of crack. Whee!

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
They are, I love it :-) Except why is the Superman art so much prettier than the Batman art? Possibly this is because I've only read graphic novels instead of regular comics. But I mean, in general, did comics only start getting pretty (ie learn about shading) in 2000 and onwards?

[identity profile] marag.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno, actually. I know zip about art and artists! The only thing I know is that Rob Liefeld needs an elementary anatomy lesson. ::coughs::

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha, yes, I saw that link you linked ot about him once (yes, I stalked your comics tag).

[identity profile] sabra-n.livejournal.com 2008-08-21 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
If you ever want to laugh, cry, and claw your eyeballs out, just read through the "rob liefield" tag in [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily. Good times.

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, another source. Thanks.

[identity profile] lady-nimua.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, that pun is so hilariously lame I'm surprise my sister didn't come up with it. She rocks at really lame puns.

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I would TOTALLY have waited ALL DAY to say that. I'd have waited a MONTH to say your "S" is mine.

[identity profile] takes-a-fairy.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Bill Cosby once used a similar pun in one of his routines.

Someone claiming to be Superman says: "see this big red 'S' on my chest?"

Bill says, "I'll give you a big red 'S' and a black eye..."

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess the S is asking for it :-) Man, I love that pun. Just my kind of lame.
ext_31769: To Wong Foo pic (Default)

[identity profile] takes-a-fairy.livejournal.com 2008-08-21 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh! Lame puns are either very very good in their lameness or very very painful in their lameness. The "S" is very very good in it's lameness, so of course it's asking for it. hee

[identity profile] wondygal.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
WHAT AN AWESOME LAME PUN. The car one cracks me up so much. "Bad boy! Have a car!"

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just see that it doesn't happen again! Or else I'll have no choice but to get you a private chauffeur as well!"
ext_23738: donna noble (Default)

[identity profile] wondygal.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Dad! That'll be almost an excuse for me to get totally drunk! Why do you torture me like this?"

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Because, son, it's the only way you'll learn. Now hush up and finish your meal, or I'll start taking you out to five star restaurants just to make sure you eat all your food."

[identity profile] sabrina-il.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
There's actually a really fun fic (or 12) where Tim ends up grounded or otherwise in Smallville, with Clarck's parents (usually Kon's also there, have you met Kon yet?) and his experience, as someone who was basically raised by maids and Alfred, in a small home where all the meals are homemade, the walls are thin and there is no internet connection... man, COMEDY GOLD. He spends his first 24 hours going O_O

...I might need a comics icon just for your posts.

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I have met Kon very briefly. He's still weird for me. And I've just read Superman: Birthright - which is awesome, by the way, with great writing and lots of humor and gorgeous art - and Clark and his parents constantly email and IM one another, so in the 2000s, they definitely have internet :-)

[identity profile] sabrina-il.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I started out sort of being bored by Kon, but then he really grew on me through his adventures with Tim, cos he's always the fun-loving-goofy-guy to Tim's "omg so srs." bat attitude. He's good comedy when he's written well (or in fic) and his whole attitude towards the bat family is helarious. It's like the Clarck/Bruce vibe, multiplied by 10. Also, I LOVED the batdickery that was his romance with Batgirl. OH MY GOD Bruce should have gotten DOUCHE OF THE YEAR for that one.

Well, I think that depends on the writer? I've def. seen at least one story from the 2000s (I think it was a Bruce/Clarck thing) where it was like, Clarck's parents mostly contacted him by phone and obviously had never heard of electronics. Could be your sources are newers though, so that's the new established canon or something.

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it was definitely new - obviously, it was post-internet :-) Probably from the last 3/4 years or so. My favorite technological bit was that in the Daily Planet newsroom reporters and Perry were more concerned with being first to upload stories to the website than to publish them in the physical paper; it was very 21st century relevant.

[identity profile] sabrina-il.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Jeeeeesus where did that come from? Wow, someone who actually knows about the internet is writing Superman again? Last time I saw stuff it was still Clark pining for the simpler times and growing up with nothing but a hey shovel to amuse himself.

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
You should read it, if you like Superman at all; it's great. Lois and Jimmy have great lines full of modern humor and actual comedic timing; Perry has a To Fire/Not To Fire Lois list (here (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q301/rogawind/page6.jpg) and here (http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q301/rogawind/page7.jpg), and one of my favorite lines are Martha helping Clark choose a "Clark Kent" outfit to help disguise him better as ordinary. In the first frame he's wearing a t-shirt, and she says "For heaven's sake, son, I don't need x-ray vision to see your six-pack." I also love the explanation for why he wears no mask as Superman and just how he works to "disguise" himself as Clark Kent, to make himself different enough and not stand out. And oh, wait, here it is (http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/919815.html#cutid1). There are a couple more from the comic tagged there.

[identity profile] sabrina-il.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. Wow. I mostly knew superman from the Superman/Batman series and from group stuff, like JLA and such, and he bored me to tears whenever Bruce was around, so. But this is... really really good. Dude.

Oh, um, also I just realized I never actually told you about that whole JLA thing at my unit, which I'm gonna share cos - LOL. Being Intelligence we change up our names, every team and department and such, every X amount of time (like, if I didn't still have contacts at my old base, I wouldn't know what anything was named anymore, or who reported to whom, job-wise). So, it's time to go through The Great Renaming. Previously, we'd had the Rocks and Minerals theme, which got to the point where every new team/department had to crack open an encyclopedia and struggle to find ONE THING they could use that didn't sound like an STD. One of the departments ended up being called Kryptonite. I shit you not, their email addresses were "Dan, Kryptonite dept." COS MADE UP ROCKS COUNT.
So then our fearless leader suggests "heavenly bodies" as a theme. He decides we should be named "tzedek", after the planet. How does he name our Senior Staff forum? THE JUSTICE LEAGUE (ligat ha tzedek). So I get invites in the mail - "Justice League meeting, today @ 3pm". Soon as it started happening I turned to my friend J and was like "...I totally have dibs on being Batman".
The name ended up not sticking - apparently the other departments all wanted to be called Tzedek too, so it didn't work out.

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Superman from Lois & Clark - I was addicted to that show - so although the comics look bland from the outside, I'm sure there's some great stuff hiding in there, like this one.

Once again, your commander sounds way cooler than mine.

[identity profile] sabrina-il.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHAHA EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THE BATFAMILY IS MADE OF WIN :D Um. Did comics only get pretty in 2000s? No, but the cases of them being pretty before then were RARE. Also, DC, for the longest time, was the company that valued artists first, and their art is generally prettier than Marvel, who put writers first and their stories as a result are... well, you know.

All of these scans are made of win :D

There is an important question that begs to be asked, as a bat person, are you a Selina Kyle/Bruce Wayne person, a Bruce/Talia person, or have no prefrence?

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Neither. I can accept Bruce/Nightwing and Bruce/Clark, but anything other than that seems like... cheating on the family! Like a distraction. Like if he has time, he should spend it being nice to Tim and Dick and the girls! I dunno, it's kinda mean. I just haven't seen any of his romances written well yet - they all seem so SUDDEN! and DRAMATIC!, like Shondra the Magical Physiotherapist when he broke his back, whom he's all of a sudden willing to give up The Mantle of the Bat for, wtf?

Bruce/Rachel from the movie worked. And... well, I don't really get Catwoman yet. I dressed up as her for two Purims in a row in elementary school? But that was mostly because I was a sheep after my best friend and liked the whip. But I don't get her. Yet.

ETA: I can also see how Bruce/Diana could work. I think I read a good fic with them, once.

[identity profile] sabrina-il.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Aaah, see, the revolving door of bruce's love interests works like this: there's always SOMEONE, this is usually Random Bimbo (rarely are they not acting like/looking like bimbos, sadly), currently I believe it's some chick in high heels and a 90s outfit whom he introduced to the batcave on their first date or whatever. That's been going on for like 60 years and they usually dissapear after a short while. There have been only 2 main love interests who have been coming back again and again in one way or another to Bruce since well, the 1940s LOL, that's Catwoman and Talia Ras Al Ghul. That's the main shipper war, if there is a het shipper war, of the batverse (also, it's the big question of whether one of them's gonna end up int e next movie, Nolan's pretty much ruled out Catwoman and acknowledged that Talia exists in his universe, at least). I have a side, of course, but I'm mostly just curious to see where you'll lean :D Have you read Hush yet?

Rachel... I know a lot of people who got really upset that they made up Rachel where there truly are 214324523 chicks from canon they could have picked - but I thought Rachel was PERFECT. She's the girl they would have made up in the comics had they been thinking of that angle (instead of "of course Bruce should sleep in the same bed with his 10 year old ward!") back then.

Bruce/Diana... man. Did I ever mention how my commander in the military named my department THE JUSTICE LEAGUE and had to be dragged kicking and screaming away from EVER NAMING ANYTHING AGAIN (AND we were Intelligence so, really, the lameness doesn't even begin to describe)? Cos, I still kinda LOL about that.

ALSO ALSO I tried calling but your phone's off, um, are you anywhere near Uni on Tuesday?

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always thought the bimbos were a Bruce-Wayne-as-a-mask thing, not actual love interests. They always seem that way, which is why the relationship feels very off. Haven't read Hush yet, although I'll probably get there. And probably still won't like Catwoman much, but you never know. (Does she know he's Batman yet? I know he knows, at some point...)

You did not mention that about your unit, no :-)

I was at the movies. If by Tuesday you mean next week Tuesday as opposed to yesterday, I do not know yet. Maybe? Anything's possible.

[identity profile] sabrina-il.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I could totally buy the mask thing, but I guess after all those years they got kind of tired of it, so now every time Bruce has a new Twu Wuv I just switch off.
Selina does know his identity yes, there's even a FAB comic where Selina Kyle walks into Wayne Manor, with paparazzi taking photos and OMG Bruce Wayne's new squeeze is here for a bootycall, wearing a gorgeous glamorous dress, and out of hte back door, Catwoman and Batman exit, with Bruce going "thanks" and her going "you're totally paying for that dress you know".

In fact, until like, the last month, she's spent quite a few years working in parallel with Batman, being a "good" vigilante, helping out and stuff. She's familiar with the entire Bat family I believe. Batman even showed up when she had her daughter with, seriously, a teddybear and a fat trust fund.

LOL yeah I mean next Tues just cos I got an experiment I gotta sign up for and there are differnet times on Tues when I can sign up and I was wondering if it'd make a diff. in regards to maybe meeting up. But, you know, I'll just pick whatever and see how it goes, eh?

ETA: OH OH and I just remembered, there's an awesome Clark/Bruce fic where Clark is like "omg Bruce how the hell do you ever get out of this cotume? Are you really so screwed up that you have a million safeways/buttons/whatever or are the villains in Gotham that desperate to get in your pants?"
and Bruce is like "...you haven't met Selina have you?"

ETA 2: Oh, it just hit me, who are these girls in the batfamily you speak of?

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Um... whoever happens to be around? Mostly Barbara and Cass.

I would go with whatever's comfortable for you on Tuesday, yes. No idea when I'll be there, if at all; let's just talk beforehand.

Huh, I never knew Selina had a daughter. The things you learn...

[identity profile] sabrina-il.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, yeah, Selina dropped off the map for a while, and then came back with a daughter. and like, the first scene we get is Bruce dropping by with, like I said, a teddybear and a trust fund and hima nd selina being all... weird around each other, like, awkward or guilty or SOMETHING and I swaer to you, 80% of s_d were SCREAMING "OMG HE'S THE FATHER!" except, of course, HE IS NOT, and just to rub it in, like a week later, in the same comic book, Talia drops by and dumps Bruce's REAL 10 year old son on him and goes all "I have an evil empire to run, I'm tired of raising our spawn, you take care of him".

Oh, cos, there's the whole Stephanie Brown thing, I was just wondering if you'd gotten around to that yet.

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I did, I just don't like her as much so I read stuff with her around... less.

And I read about his real son. So much bleh. I'm not counting that as canon, as far as I'm concerned. (He's as canon to me as certain characters on Lost are dead to me, which is to say, until we see a DNA test and proof that it's not a dream or an alternate reality, it's not his real son. And if he is... I'll avoid that storyline unless I see it heavily recced.

[identity profile] sabrina-il.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
All, right let me point out: the batmobile has a carseat (http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/3876999.html#cutid1), and also not my favourite comic of that run, but still, um, the cuteness is quite palpable (http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/4134086.html#cutid1). Also contians Bruce being fumbly and pretending to be a supervillain for the public.

UGH I can not FOR THE LIFE OF ME find a scan of him holding the bear, but maaaan that was awesome. In the same scene he also lectures Selina on letting a new girl take up her cotume and fight crime "she's so young Selina, I can't believe you brought another person into this!" and Selina's like "Um. Wait. You're lecturing me on involving teenagers in crime fighting?" That was a rather priceless moment.

His real son is indeed... his real son. It's anchored in an old storyline where he and Talia get married and she supposedly has a miscarriage except NOT. I'm also personally ignoring it although I'm afriad they're gonna start treating it as universe-wide canon soon which is... ugh. SO SO WRONG OMG.

check out Superdickery. It's a very funny website goofing on weird shit in various (mostly) superhero comic books.

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I know it! It's hilarious.

[identity profile] lomedet.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, comics. *happysigh*

it's so much fun watching you get sucked in to this! The Batfamily is what got me onto LJ in the first place, and they Tim they will always be near and dear to my heart.

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, yes. It must be like what I feel now that a lot of people on my flist are getting into HIMYM. I'm all, YES! SHARE THE BRILLIANCE! SEE HOW AWESOME IT IS? I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW!

[identity profile] beahorgana.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I just love this post to pieces, esp the one from Birthright. I love unsure!Clark, he's completely adorkable. :D I've added you as a friend so I don't miss out on any of the geekery.

[identity profile] roga.livejournal.com 2008-08-31 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, I loved Birthright SO MUCH! I wish the writer and artist worked on more stuff together, because they were a really great team.

I jump fandoms like... kind of crazy, and I just - very recently - got into the comics thing. I hope it lasts! Kinda? I mean, the less obsessions the better, so maybe I don't hope it lasts... Anyway, hi :-)
