birdsofshore requested something canonical on my recent call for prompts. Of the moments she suggested, the Fiendfyre one was the one that most caught my eye as something I had never done before.
Oh, wow!!! This is freaking gorgeous, and I am especially entranced by the coloring here. Love Draco reaching up towards Harry and supporting Goyle, and Harry swooping in to save them. <3
This is beautiful! I love the texture and the coloring, and their reach towards each other is so telling, while Draco's arm is still wrapped around his friend. I looooove this.
Oh, that's a real lovely thing. I'm all full of H/D feels. It's such a resonant moment for us all, and you've made it feel familiar and new at the same time. I love it. ♥
It's turned out so dramatic with the composition, I don't know, the placing of the figures and I suppose the way the focus is on Draco and his peril. Harry looks reluctant - if I didn't know the scene I would not feel at all sure that he was going to take Draco's hand or not. But Draco's yearning stretch is achingly lovely. The way his face is upturned to Harry and he's reaching out to be saved with all of his might - it seems terribly symbolic and heart clenching. I'm feeling a bit emotional about it because it seems to portray the way Draco, as a literary character, seems to me to be BEGGING for some kind of redemption by the end of the series. And here, to see Harry looking down almost as if he can't decide whether or not he's worth saving... it's awfully moving.
But this is just my rather overwrought interpretation of it this evening. Harry's hand is reaching out, after all, almost against his will. The background is so gloriously intense - it looks even prettier on the little screen of my phone, with the red so fiery and the blacks so bold. I love the great streaks of colour across the whole piece, and the gorgeous tension, and the little details like the lovely soles of Draco's shoes, and *cough* his arse really does look RATHER NICE while he is being saved from mortal peril. Shame Harry is the wrong side to appreciate it the view...
I love the little touches of red on their skin and clothes, as well, and the heat of it all, and the light on Draco's face, and Goyle's outflung hand, and Draco propping him up and the way he's clinging. ♥ Oh, lots of feels, this one. Beautiful.
When I was looking through your recap of the year, I thought, how can I ever thank you for all this art you've gifted me/us, and now there's ANOTHER. /o\ Overwhelmed with it all. Thank you, dear. It's really something.
Thank you for the prompt. I didn't do a fiendfyre scene back in 2007 or whenever it was that everyone did it. I'm more confident with anatomy now and I needed that to get a properly dynamic composition of a flying figure.
Hee, I love that, yes, it has become all about Draco. Harry's reticence was unintentional, but I agree it is there. I think he looks like one of those robust floating angels in Renaissance art because I couldn't get the foreshortening right or real stress in his reach. I like your interpretation of that. Draco's pretty thighs and arse were, of course, entirely intentional *g*
Thanks a lot. I'm enjoying playing around with digital arts. My favourite pieces will always be pencil or watercolor, but somehow, because I don't take it seriously, digital stuff can end up much freer and fun. I'm glad you liked this one :)
Thanks a lot! I did the drawings in greyscale, but then fiendfyre can't be black and white so I started messing around. There's a scuffed sepia parchment layer over the whole piece which tied it all together and made the red and orange a little subtler looking :)
I really enjoyed working from canon. I might need to do some more canon things. I'm rereading for blithlybonny's thing, so maybe some other canon scenes will catch me. I'm glad you liked this one :)
This is really stunning. I love the darkness of the image and how you've portrayed the fire, and the contrast of Draco's outstretched arm against that. Really captivating and beautiful to look at!
Thanks a lot! I was just messing around in Photoshop and the composition suggested itself. I'm really no good at digital colouring, but this just worked out fine :)
Love this! I will never be tired of seeing any and all Fiendfyre versions. This is gorgeous and serious and so dark. I'm so happy to know Harry (and Ron) succeeded in saving the boys. Well done!
