Life’s an illusion

Haiku Horizons is at lucky number 99 this week. Well, at least from the Chinese point of view – the number 9 represents longevity. This means Haiku Horizons is celebrating double longevity. 🙂 So, I hope Haiku Horizons will be around for a long time to come.

This week’s word prompt is ‘real’, which made me think about the perceived reality of life. Life is only as good as we think it is, isn’t it?

Life’s an illusion

Life’s an illusion
What is real and what is not?
Be true to yourself

Illusions

For my 9th post for the  Blogging A to Z Challenge, I decided to write a poem on illusions and perceptions that all too often colour our lives.

I for ILLUSIONS

Illusions

Our lives regarded
Coloured and painted
Viewed from our mind’s eye
Senses, our attention vie

Visions of you
From my point of view
Real or mere illusion?
Clear or clouded with delusion?

Visions of me
Will you let me be?
Unchanged and carefree
Unrealistic expectations, bury

Life is what we make of it
With sufficient wisdom, well lit
Think we are happy, so we are
Think we are not, discontent mars

Why be unhappy, discontented, sad?
Life is lived once, don’t make it bad
Be hopeful; In all things, see goodness
Fill your heart with joy and gladness

Epiphany

On the fifth day of the A-to-Z Challenge, I thought for hours about what to write for ‘E’. Then I had a chat with a nice friend and at last I got an idea. 🙂  Of course, I had to submit my first assignment for the 10 Premodern Poems by Women course at Stanford University today. So, I managed to submit that first before I posted my write-up for ‘E’. You can see the listing of all free online public courses at Stanford University here.

Today’s write-up is not an article, but a poem. I love writing poems in all manner of styles, but today’s poem is in free verse. Hope you like it. 😉

E for Epiphany

Epiphany

To find beauty in every object
And every living thing
Such is the wonder of life worth living
To see the silver lining on every grey cloud
The beauty of a tropical storm
To see past the illusions of grandeur
To delight in the morning dew and rising sun
Such is a life worth living
