Our honeymoon was supposed to be all about rest and romance, but as you know my husband, MoCursor had other plans. We ended up driving to WordCamp Jinja 2022, a tech event focused on WordPress, Website Development with WordPress among others. At first, I wasn’t excited since it was more of a Moses thing. But since it was our honeymoon, and also my best time to have him, I decided to tag along. Little did I know, that decision would change my life and be the best thing that happened to me after Moses!
WordCamp Jinja 2022 was held at the Innovation Village in Jinja City, right at the source of the Nile. There was this blend of creativity, tech energy, and the beautiful scenery of ninja sites that calmed my tensioned nerves.  At first, I sat quietly during the sessions. People were discussing everything from web development, WordPress contribution to remote job opportunities in the global WordPress community. I was intrigued by how these young people from Uganda, East Africa and beyond were tapping into global markets, freelancing, and earning beyond the local pay scales that are hefty.
What really tickled me most was the session on “Global Opportunities in the WordPress Community” where panelists shared practical tips on how to leverage tech skills to land remote jobs. Satisfyingly surprising, my husband (MoCursor) was part of the panelists that day. It was so eye-opening to realize that I didn’t need to limit myself to local opportunities. Remote work, especially in tech, could open doors to a much bigger world. I started to see how this could impact my life as well.
After the sessions, we joined in at the after-party at the Source of the Nile. Between conversations, I was already dreaming of how I could dive into this space, not just supporting my husband in his tech pursuits but carving my own niche in this global WordPress community. I am a great lover of community and adventure so everything felt like a fresh start, a new beginning alongside our new life together but also an opportunity to be an addition to the community. WordCamp Jinja wasn’t just an event; it was the beginning of something big for both of me as an individual but for us as well as a young couple.
