The collection comes with the complete set of artwork including all the details about the bands involved.

Jon Savage's Trip (A Mojo Bonus Issue #43)

VARIOUS - THE 100 GREATEST PSYCHEDELIC CLASSICS (1997)

 

Two years after his C90 in September 1995 featured in the Issue #20, Jon Savage was back by public demand, and even more mind-expanding, Jon Savage takes a trip through psychedelia's golden years to compile the ultimate six-hour flashback. A 12-page feature of 100 songs divided in two parts: Psychedelia USA and Psychedelia UK.

All the 12 pages have been scanned and included in their original A4 format, a custom front artwork and back have been made. The audio has been re-built according to the notes written by Jon Savage. Probably the biggest volume ever posted on PPA (or even on PPC).

Dave Godin's C90 (Mojo June 1995 Home Taping)

VARIOUS - SWEET AGONY (DAVE GODIN'S DEEP SOUL) (1995)

 

Compiled by Dave Godin, the Man who coined the term "DEEP SOUL", the collection was featured in the Mojo issue #19 of June 1995.

Two years later, in 1997, Dave Godin expanded the theme for Kent Soul with the first volume of his Deep Soul's Treasures - four volumes will be added between 1999 and 2019.

All the pages of the original liner notes, written by Dave Godin were scanned by a blog reader "amacoz", i resized them to make the complete set of artwork for this new and final volume of Mojo Home Taping.

Jon Savage's C90 (Mojo February 1995 Home Taping)

VARIOUS - SPACE IS THE PLACE (1995)

 

Another Jon Savage collection, an imaginary C90 compiled for Mojo in 1995 (Issue #16), a few months after his "Dear Diary" C90. 

All the pages of the original liner notes, written by Jon Savage, were scanned and resized to make the complete set of artwork for this new volume of Mojo Home Taping.

And for the ones interested, the above photo used in the Mojo issue is from the 1968 movie "The Green Slime"

Bleddyn Butcher's C90 (Mojo February 1996 Home Taping)

VARIOUS - LONESOME AND BLUE (1996)

 

Bleddyn Butcher's work had appeared in Melody Maker, Vox, Mojo, Rolling Stone and Vogue. He has also edited and designed the Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds fan magazine.

For the Mojo Issue #27, Bleddyn Butcher celebrates the Kings and Queens of Bedsitland and compiles the ultimate singer-songwriter C90.

Barney Hoskyns' C90 (Mojo August 1996 Home Taping)

VARIOUS - WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE... (1996)

 

Barney Hoskyns began to write for Melody Maker and NME before being U.S Editor of Mojo around 1997. In August 1996, he compiled the ultimate C90 rock'n'roll gumbo.

Chris Ingham & Jim Irwin C90 (Mojo January 1996 Home Taping)

A WONDERFUL SWING TO BE SWUNG (1996)

 

Compiled by Chris Ingham (jazz pianist-singer) and Jim Irvin (journalist, singer) for the Mojo Issue #26 in 1996, this C90 was a summation of the skills of Frank Sinatra between 1944 and 1981 (from the Columbia years to his Reprise releases). Chris Ingham & Jim Irvin wrote together a "Rough Guide to The Beatles" (2009)  and "A Rough Guide to Frank Sinatra" (2005)

All the pages were scanned and resized to make the complete set of artwork for this new volume of Mojo Home Taping.

David Quantick's C90 (Mojo July 1996 Home Taping)

VARIOUS - OL' RED EYES IS BACK (1996)

David Quantick began writing for NME in 1983, and published a biography of The Clash in 2000. In 1996, for the Issue #32 David Quantick concocted The Mojo Drunk Tape - a cocktail of musical magic to help the medicine go down..

TONT Back on The Tracks

TRIBUTES OR NOT TRIBUTES Volume 21 (2024)

 

Even though, there was a volume #13 in August 2023, this brand new collection is the real follow up to the 20th volume posted in July 2023. During the last 15 months, covers were slowly added to the TONT folder. So it was time to pick some of them and make this new volume.

Started in 2006, the series is now reaching its 21th volume (but there never was a volume 19). Full artwork features the bands and songs used for the exclusive PPA collection

and just like Johnny Ramone used to say:

"Go back and learn the history.

Go back to the beginning of rock 'n'roll

and listen to everything that went down".

Paul Weller's C90 (Mojo January 1998 Home Taping)

VARIOUS - ROLL UP! ROLL UP! (1998)

 

No need to introduce Paul Weller, this very last "Home Taping" compilation was a special one and was published within the Issue #50 of January 1998, when Mojo had already started the bonus CD's (available through subscription).

There were only two pages and they were scanned and resized to make the complete set of artwork for this new volume of Mojo Home Taping.

Lindsay Hutton's C90 (Mojo April 1995 Home Taping)

VARIOUS - SURF AND DESTROY (1995)

 

There are plenty of beat-instrumental CD compilations, but in 1995 rock journalist Lindsay Hutton ("The Next Big Thing", "Sounds" and "Mojo" to name a few) made his own and presented this definitive C90 of surf and beat-instrumental music in the Mojo Issue #17 of April. The three pages of the original liner notes, written by Lindsay Hutton, were scanned and resized to make the complete set of artwork for this new volume of Mojo Home Taping.

A Forgotten and Overlooked Album (Never Reissued)

ROY SUNDHOLM - THE CHINESE METHOD (1979)

 

After being a member of the Spencer Davis Group, Roy Sundholm played with "The Ratbites From Hell" (Huw Gower later joined The Records) & "Over The Hill". The band formed in 1972, broke up at the start of 1973 and reformed, with the line-up that recorded "Ratbite Fever" toward the end of 1973. The other members were: Peter Roe (lead guitar), John Perry went on to see considerable commercial success, with Peter Perrett, and The Only Ones. Alan Platt joined Wilko Johnson's Solid Senders in 1978 and played on the first of Roy Sundholm's solo albums "The Chinese Method", released by Ensign in 1979.

 

"The Chinese Method" has ten Roy Sundholm compositions and each of them bears the hallmark of a skilled and imaginative songwriter. The shadows of Dave Edmunds loom large, while the similarity to Graham Parker is so conspicuous in places it sounds like a tribute to the worthy. Guy Humphries (The Winkies) is playing guitar, while the Graham Parker's Rumour Brass and Rumour's keyboardist Bob Andrews are also guesting.

Jon Savage's C90 (Mojo October 1994 Home Taping)

VARIOUS - DEAR DIARY... (1994)

 

The first Jon Savage collection specially compiled for Mojo was an aural close study on the teenager phenomenon from 1955 to 1993.

Jon Savage will expand the theme about teenagers and their role in 50s rock 'n' roll and pop culture with his Bear Family 2011 compilation "Teenage (Teenagers & Youth In Music 1951-1960)".

Published in the Mojo October 1994 issue #11, the four pages of the original liner notes, written by Jon Savage, were scanned and resized to make the complete set of artwork for this new volume of Mojo Home Taping.

Pre-Fame Gigolo Aunts LP (Never Reissued)

GIGOLO AUNTS - TALES FROM THE VINEGAR SIDE (1990)

 

The Gigolo Aunts took their name from the Syd Barrett song, the band is fronted by brothers Phil and Steve Hurley with vocalist/guitarist Dave Gibbs and drummer Phil Brouwer. After their first album "Everybody's Happy" released in 1988, they released in 1990 the rare LP "Tales From The Vinegar Side" available in Spain only and it has never been reissued.

The album featured 11 songs (10 originals and a cover). The opening song being a cover of the Chris Bell classic "I Am The Cosmos". Dave Gibbs resurfaced as Velvet Crush's second guitarist in the early '90s, but returned full-time to his own group as its career began heating up abroad.

Crafty One-Man Album (Never Reissued)

ROBERT DERBY - I'M NORMAL (1980)

 

This early one-man album demonstrates what could be done in the pre-tech days by a crafty auteur with two tape decks, a basement and a lot of patience. Far worse-sounding albums have been recorded by rooms full of session pros in 32-track studios. If you dig LMNOP's catchy pop, then you'll enjoy Derby's light rock-pop which benefits from skillful arrangements and his multi instrumental prowess; underdeveloped material and a samey blandness are the record's shortcomings. (Cachalot later repackaged "I'm Normal" with the similarly solitary Ian North album "My Girlfriend's Dead", overstating their achievements by titling the pair Modern Renaissance Men, but while Ian North's was reissued on CD, Robert Derby has never been reissued.) (Trouser Press).

The Count From Boston (Never Reissued)

THE COUNT - I'M A STAR (1978)

 

The Count (Joseph A. Viglione) has been a visible and important fixture on the local Boston scene ever since the mid-’70s. Besides recording and performing his own material, he’s published fanzines, promoted concerts, produced other bands and operated the Varulven label. Oddly enough, his first two albums "I'm A Star" (1978) and "Love & Flame" (1982) have never been issued outside France. "I'm A Star" was released on Flamingo Records runned by Patrick Mathé from his record store in Paris "Music Box". Mathé would later create New Rose Records.

"I’m a Star" owes quite a bit to the influence of the Velvet Underground. The tracks - many previously issued in the US on singles and EPs - are appealing because of their simple, romantic outlook on life. Guests (among others) on the album include Matthew McKenzie (Reddy Teddy), Tom Dickie & Jon Macey (Tom Dickie & The Desires)

Dawn Eden's C90 (Mojo December 1995 Home Taping)

VARIOUS - VIRTUAL POP! (1995)

 

Dawn Eden began writing in 1985 for fanzines and becoming a popular-music historian, writing for Mojo among others. From 1990 through the early 2000s, she wrote liner notes for more than seventy CD reissues. She spent years researching and championing the music and life of sunshine pop progenitor Curt Boettcher and wrote liner notes for several collections of his work. So in 1995, Dawn Eden made her C90 of Bubblegum "Virtual Pop!" for the Mojo issue #25.

 

The original liner notes, written by Dawn Eden, have been scanned by a blog reader in order to make the complete set of artwork for this new volume of Mojo Home Taping.

Rob Chapman's C90 (Mojo June 1997 Home Taping)

VARIOUS - DOZY TAKES A TRIP (1997)

 

Compiled by Rob Chapman, singer of the Glaxo Babies and The Transmitters, the collection is a 90-minute ride down Dementia Lane.

 

Published in the 1997 special Psychedelic Mojo issue #43, the original liner notes, written by Rob Chapman, have been scanned in order to make the complete set of artwork for this new volume of Mojo Home Taping.

 

This is a volume i had totally overlooked while reading all the Mojo Back issues, and recently i got a comment from a blog reader telling me i had forgotten this "Home Taping" volume.

VARIOUS - JON SAVAGE'S 1970 (1995)

Dylan Jones' C90 (Mojo July 1995 Home Taping)

VARIOUS - ENGLISH COUNTRY GARDEN (1995)

 

One year after his C90 of "Easy Listening", Dylan Jones compiled his tape of "English Country Garden" records.

Published in the Mojo issue #20 (impossible to find in my Mojo boxes), the three pages of the original liner notes, written by Dylan Jones, were scanned by "Willy" a blog reader.
