What could seem insignificant now, may have far-reaching effects in the future. This is in reference to the exhibition match between Croatia's Marin Cilic and Wimbledon 2019 favourite Rafael Nadal. The 18-time Grand Slam winner lost 6-3, 6-3 giving Cilic the pre-tournament boost he needed. In his post-French Open victory interview, Nadal claimed that he would avoid playing any other tournament or match before Wimbledon and would allow his body to rest. This could be one of the reasons for the tennis pro to not take the exhibition match seriously. Despite his impressive form in the unofficial match, Cilic rates Nadal as the top contender for Wimbledon. "It’s a nice test to play Rafa – not looking at the score but just at the game. I was playing really well, served extremely good and moved around the court well, didn’t make many mistakes, which is extremely pleasing, and just feeling good," Cilic said in an interview. Nadal, unaffected by the loss, said, "I'm excited to be back at Wimbledon. This type of match today helps to try to be ready. Of course I decided not to play a tournament before Wimbledon, I'm 33 so I need to save energy." (AFP)
