What's your favorite dish to bring to a potluck, and why? Bonus points for recipes!

(Church thingy this weekend and I'm bored and uninspired by usual potluck recipes.)

Unfortunately it's baked mac & cheese: tasty, easy, kid-friendly, but pretty usual. The 3-cup variant, at the bottom of this post: http://kate-nepveu.dreamwidth.org/683660.html

Vegan* potato salad, with a vinaigrette-style dressing instead of mayo. I didn't originally intend it to be vegan; I just don't like mayonnaise. The first time I brought it to a party, I put it down on the table and went to hang up my coat and when I came back the dish was empty, so I guess people like it.

* In order for it to be actually vegan, you should leave the honey and Worcestershire out of the dressing, but that's very easy to do.

Recipe, more or less.

Well, I was a little annoyed that I didn't get to eat any of it. :)

Chicken adobo, although it was Joe who cooked it up with a bunch of veggies, and not I. It was a hit the last time he tried it.

Deviled eggs. They're annoying to transport but everyone seems to love them, and they're relatively fast to make (especially with a second set of hands to peel, slice, and de-yolk) and it's easy to mix up the spices (last batch had a little sriracha in the filling with some furikake garnish on top).

If I'm feeling lazy, banana bread.

If I'm on dessert detail and have the time and inclination, I like banana pudding. I use the Magnolia Bakery recipe. We have the good fortune to live near a small mountain town renowned for its pies, though, many of which are transported to our local supermarkets, so in a pinch, pie with vanilla ice cream is always a hit.

I've also been known to bring butternut squash soup, which has the added bonus of being vegan-friendly if you use veggie stock instead of chicken.

My aunt makes a phenomenal buffalo chicken cheese dip thing, but I've never got the recipe from her. This might be close?

It's really great for people who like bananas and/or have a massive sweet tooth - which is me on both counts, haha. :3

Hot salty chocolate nuts. Inspired by the desire to create an entirely New World recipe. Mix unsweetened cocoa powder, salt, allspice, and cayenne - sorry, I don't have proportions, but to taste. It should be mostly cocoa powder with the rest as accents. Take pecans, dip them in beaten egg, roll them in spice mix, and bake as for cinnamon pecans. A savory and unusual hors d'oeuvre! Very moreish.
