Green-emitting Quantum Dots (QDs) embedded within a checkerboard pattern of two different photonic crystals on a flexible transparent plastic sheet. The light squares have a photonic crystal which enhances the QD emission, while the darker regions show the contrast of the same QDs without enhancement. For details, see Cunningham et al., pp. 2302–2308.
