Feed More - Waste Less - Kai Atu

About us

At KiwiHarvest we believe that every New Zealander, especially our most vulnerable children and families, should have access to fresh, nutritious food. New Zealand produces enough food to feed 40 million people, yet 21% of kiwi children live in households struggling with insecurity. At the same time an estimated 30% of food produced globally goes to waste. In New Zealand the amount of good food going to waste each year, is enough to feed Wellington and Lower Hutt for a year. Every weekday, the team at KiwiHarvest rescues around 15 tonnes of this good surplus food from over 370 food businesses, including supermarkets, wholesalers, producers and others, this food could be oversupply, damaged packaging, cancelled orders, mislabelling, or the food is nearing its best before date or end of life. This food is then provided free to over 235 charitable agencies and community groups, including women’s refuges, mental health and addiction support, social housing, education programs, churches and marae, employment assistance and youth support. Find out more about how you or your business can help us champion this cause and improve our social and environmental wellbeing at www.kiwiharvest.org.nz.

  • The impact of a corporate partnership goes far beyond a financial contribution. This year, Amazon's support will enable KiwiHarvest to rescue and redistribute over $500,000 worth of good food to communities across Aotearoa. At a time when many families are making impossible choices between heating their homes and putting food on the table, that support will bring real relief. Every kilogram of food rescued means more people have access to nutritious food and community organisations can direct more of their limited resources towards the services they provide. Amazon's impact doesn't stop there. This month, we're delighted to welcome two Amazon volunteer teams into our warehouse. Their energy and willingness to get stuck in will help us keep food moving to the charities that need it most. Every weekday, KiwiHarvest rescues and redistributes around 16 tonnes of surplus food. It takes an incredible team of staff, volunteers and partners to make that happen, and the support of volunteer groups like Amazon's is an essential part of our operation. A huge thank you to everyone at Amazon for investing in our mission and for rolling up your sleeves to help ensure good food feeds people, not landfill. Together, you're making a tangible difference for people experiencing food insecurity across New Zealand. #KiwiHarvest #Amazon #CorporatePartnerships #FoodRescue #Volunteering #CommunityImpact #FoodSecurity #ESG

Collaborating for a good cause. Our latest Cooking for a Cause session on Thursday saw the fantastic leadership team from Coverstaff Recruitment turn rescued food into nutritious meals for people in the community. Hosted at the Miele Experience Centre, the team got stuck in, preparing and packaging ready-to-eat meals with the guidance of Miele’s Chef Jen. The meals were then collected by Te Whare Herenga o Ngā Tāngata, to distribute to the whānau they support. It’s a great example of what can happen when everyone brings something to the table: KiwiHarvest provided good quality rescued food that could otherwise have gone to waste. Chef Jen Hogg shared her expertise, guiding the team through the cooking session. Miele generously provided the beautiful facilities to bring everyone together. BioPak supplied sustainably produced packaging for the meals. Coverstaff Recruitment Limited's team brought energy, enthusiasm and efficiency to the kitchen. Te Whare Herenga o ngā Tangata Māori Women’s Refuge provided the connection to community, ensuring the meals reached people who need them most. A huge thank you to everyone who played a part. We are grateful to have Coverstaff on board as a supporting partner of KiwiHarvest since July 2025. Together we’re preventing good quality food from going to waste and putting it to good use, nourishing and supporting our communities. #CookingforACause #KiwiHarvest #FoodRescue #CommunityPartnerships #SocialImpact #ReducingFoodWaste #FoodSecurity

  • Reducing food waste takes collaboration across the entire food system, and partnerships are at the heart of making lasting change. We're proud to be featured in the Sustainable Business Council NZ Council's latest case study, showcasing how KiwiHarvest and Woolworths New Zealand work together to ensure good food reaches people, not landfill. Every day, surplus food from Woolworths stores is rescued and redistributed through KiwiHarvest's nationwide network, providing nutritious food to charities and community groups supporting people experiencing food insecurity. Together, we're reducing waste, lowering emissions and making a real difference for communities across Aotearoa. A huge thank you to the Woolworths team for their ongoing commitment to food rescue and to the Sustainable Business Council for highlighting what can be achieved when businesses and charities work together towards a shared goal. • Partnerships that stand the test of time create lasting impact. We're incredibly grateful that The Collective has committed to a fourth year of supporting KiwiHarvest. Over the past four years, their support has gone far beyond funding. Through generous food donations and enthusiastic volunteer teams, they've helped ensure more good food reaches people who need it most. Long term partners like The Collective are critical to KiwiHarvest's success. Their continued investment has not only helped sustain our work but has enabled us to grow, improve our efficiency and maximise the impact of every dollar invested. When The Collective first partnered with us, every $1,000 they invested enabled KiwiHarvest to rescue and redistribute $7,570 worth of food. Today, through growth, operational efficiencies and a relentless focus on reducing costs, that same $1,000 helps put $10,300 worth of food into communities experiencing food insecurity. That's a 36% increase in impact. To everyone at The Collective, thank you for believing in our mission and for standing alongside us year after year. Together, we're ensuring more good food feeds people, not landfill. MADE Group | NZ #KiwiHarvest #TheCollective #Partnerships #FoodRescue #FoodWaste #CommunityImpact #CorporateGiving #Volunteering

  • In her latest opinion piece for the Sunday Star Times and The Post, KiwiHarvest CEO Angela Calver explores the disconnect between food waste and food insecurity in New Zealand, and why it is time to rethink how we value surplus food. Every year, more than 200,000 tonnes of perfectly good, edible food goes to waste, while demand for food support continues to rise. Angela argues that food rescue is a practical, proven solution, but that stronger policy and investment are needed to ensure more edible food reaches people instead of landfill. KiwiHarvest is proud to play a vital role in this solution. Working with food donors across the country, we rescue surplus food that would otherwise be wasted and deliver it, free of charge, to charities and community organisations supporting people experiencing food insecurity. Last year alone, we rescued more than 4 million kilograms of food, helping feed thousands of New Zealanders while preventing unnecessary waste. Read Angela's perspective and join the conversation about building a food system where good food feeds people first. https://lnkd.in/eA6adBC6 #KiwiHarvest #FoodRescue #FoodWaste #FoodSecurity #Sustainability #NewZealand #OpinionPiece

  • Since 2023, Kuehne+Nagel has been a valued Supporting Partner of KiwiHarvest. Their financial support helps us rescue more good food and deliver it to communities experiencing food insecurity across Aotearoa. What makes this partnership even more special is the enthusiasm their team brings every time they volunteer with us. They recently spent time in our warehouse, rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck into the work that keeps surplus food moving to the charities that need it most. Corporate volunteering is so much more than a team building exercise. It gives people a firsthand understanding of the scale of food waste and the growing demand for food support, while making a tangible contribution to our daily operations. A huge thank you to the Kuehne + Nagel team for your ongoing commitment to KiwiHarvest. Your support, both through funding and volunteering, is helping ensure good food feeds people, not landfill. If your organisation is looking for a meaningful way to make a difference, we'd love to talk about how you can partner with KiwiHarvest. #KiwiHarvest #KuehneNagel #FoodRescue #CorporateVolunteering #Partnerships #FoodWaste #ESG #CommunityImpact

One of the questions we hear most often at KiwiHarvest is, "How can you feed a family for just $5?" It sounds almost too good to be true. But thanks to our unique food rescue model, every $5 donated helps us rescue and redistribute enough food to provide around 10 meals for a family, while also preventing that food from going to landfill. For a long time, we've wanted to show people how that works, because once you understand the model, you understand just how powerful every donation can be. That's where the incredibly talented team at Lotto New Zealand came in. Three teams of creative minds donated their time and expertise to help us bring this story to life. Through ideas, collaboration, plenty of feedback and more than a few refinements, we've ended up with a motion graphic that explains our $5 message in a simple, engaging way. Creative support like this is incredibly valuable to charities. It helps us communicate our impact more effectively, reach more people and ultimately rescue more food for communities across Aotearoa. A huge thank you to Fleur Valois and her team at Lotto who contributed their skills and creativity to this project. We'd also like to acknowledge the continued support of the team at Lotteries, whose partnership has been instrumental in helping KiwiHarvest grow and increase our impact over the years. #KiwiHarvest #LottoNZ #Lotteries #FoodRescue #CreativeForGood #Partnerships #CommunityImpact #FoodWaste

  • This RNZ story highlights something we see every day. Rescued food is about far more than preventing waste. It is about getting good food to people who need it and, in this case, transforming surplus ingredients into nutritious meals for families facing tough times. At KiwiHarvest, we are proud to run initiatives like Cooking for a Cause, where volunteers and chefs work together to create ready-made meals from rescued food. These meals provide practical support for charities working with whānau experiencing hardship and housing insecurity. Stories like this are a reminder of what is possible when businesses, volunteers, charities and communities work together. Every meal created from rescued food represents both food waste prevented and a family supported. Big thanks to the team at LION, Miele and Island Child Charity for working with us on the initiative. https://lnkd.in/e9TqQytp

  • It takes many hands working together to create meaningful change. Last week we held our first Cooking for a Cause session for 2026, bringing together an incredible group of people and organisations with a shared goal: turning good food into good outcomes for our community. A team of volunteers from Lion joined us at the beautiful Miele Experience Centre, where, under the guidance of Chef Jen, they prepared and packaged ready meals of Chicken and Vegetable Pasta. Every meal went to Island Child Charitable Trust, supporting families living in transitional housing and facing challenging circumstances. What makes Cooking for a Cause so special is that everyone plays a part: KiwiHarvest provided quality rescued food that might otherwise have gone to waste. - Miele generously provided their outstanding facilities. - Chef Jen Hogg shared her expertise, passion and culinary skills to guide the session. - BioPak supplied sustainably produced packaging to ensure the meals could be safely distributed. - LION brought an enthusiastic team of volunteers who rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in. - Danielle Bergin from Island Child Charitable Trust joined the session to share the impact of their work and personally collected the meals to take back to the families they support. Together, this partnership transformed rescued food into nutritious, ready to eat meals for people who need them most. Thank you to everyone involved for playing your part. When organisations and individuals come together with a common purpose, we can create something far greater than any one of us could achieve alone. #CookingForACause #KiwiHarvest #FoodRescue #CommunityPartnerships #SocialImpact #ReducingFoodWaste #FoodSecurity
