Excited to speak at this year’s Financial Services Council New Zealand Amplify Conference! Back in 2006, we set out to prove digital could transform life insurance. Nearly two decades later, that vision is more relevant than ever. Today, as insurers grow, complexity grows with them, and the companies that win are the ones that remove friction from the customer journey. Looking forward to sharing the stage with leaders from Sentro, Quashed, and Simfuni, facilitated by Josh Daniell.
🚀 This year’s Financial Services Council New Zealand Amplify Conference will feature the strongest line up yet of life and health solutions by Kiwi insurtechs. Head to the Tech Showcase (⏰ 8am on 13th August), facilitated by Josh Daniell, to hear Sentro, Intellimin Limited, Quashed & Simfuni. Find the full line up in the comments. Quotemonster (Quality Product Research) estimates a million, or more, working-age, insurable New Zealanders may have little or no meaningful life, trauma, income protection or health cover. The Showcase is a chance to learn how the sector can use better data, digital advice, integration and personalisation to make protection more accessible, affordable and understandable. #insurtechnz #fsc #fintechnz

New Zealand’s tech sector is growing around five times faster than the wider economy. It contributes approximately $24 billion to GDP, includes more than 24,000 firms, and is creating a significant opportunity for New Zealand’s productivity, exports and long-term resilience. But there is a critical question: are we building the advanced digital capability needed to sustain its growth? The 2026 edition of Digital Skills Aotearoa: Digital Skills in the Age of AI finds that New Zealand’s digital skills challenge is no longer simply a ‘leaky pipeline’. It is now a major structural challenge. Demand remains strong for AI, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure and software expertise. However, the domestic pipeline is under pressure from declining participation in key STEM subjects at school, through to constrained early-career pathways and lower ICT visa approvals. AI raises the stakes further. It can accelerate some tasks, but it also increases the need for experienced people who can build, secure, validate and govern complex digital systems. The report sets out why advanced digital skills are now a productivity, resilience and economic-growth priority, plus the coordinated action needed across industry, government and education. Great to be part of InsurTech New Zealand’s event in Wellington last night! The evening covered some of the latest data and digital projects happening in the industry. Our Chief Product Officer, Tim von Dadelszen, gave a presentation on 'The cost of standing still,' and how legacy systems are no longer simply an IT constraint. They’re increasingly shaping what an insurer can achieve across customer experience, innovation, operational efficiency, automation and AI. While insurtech’s are building world-class technology, innovation only matters when it can be adopted - and for Simfuni that means making migration and implementation simpler, faster and more manageable. Tim talked about how new technology is changing the economics of insurance migration and demonstrated our new AI-assisted migration acceleration tool. It helps teams understand and prepare legacy data faster and more effectively, while keeping people in control of the important decisions. Thanks to Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake for hosting, and to Brendon Moore, Conor Sligo, Fiona Mackenzie, Paul Barton, Sarah-Jayne McCurrach for their insights! And to InsurTech New Zealand for organising it all. #InsurTech #InsuranceInnovation #InsuranceMigration
