One of the innovations we are working on within wind farm Hollandse Kust Noord is reducing the wake effect of the turbines. With HELIX, a wind farm flow control technology, we want to take a next step in this research. Therefore, we are going to start one of the first offshore demonstrations of dynamic wind farm flow control at utility scale. Following extensive analytical work and preparation, CrossWind together with Siemens Gamesa and Delft University of Technology are going to install and test the HELIX technology offshore. This is a critical milestone in progressing the technology from theory into practice at HKN, where offshore application provides insights that cannot be obtained through simulations alone. The offshore testing phase allows all partners to validate control strategies, assess system behaviour under live wind conditions, and better understand the practical boundaries of advanced flow control in large offshore wind farms. This will improve the possibilities to reduce wake effects now, but also for future offshore wind farms. During the Offshore Wind conference 'Torque' in June 2026 the TU Delft will share the first results from this test. A first for CrossWind's wind farm Hollandse Kust Noord: cargo drones successfully delivered packages from a vessel to offshore wind turbines and back. A great new step in making it easier to work on offshore wind turbines, thanks to this innovative technology of Ampelmann Operations and in close collaboration with Siemens Gamesa. Technicians working on the turbines normally have to carry a lot of equipment up to the nacelle of a turbines to effectively do maintenance work. Often more equipment than they actually need, since it is not easy to collect tools from the vessel once they are in the turbine. By pre-loading equipment to the turbine and using the cargo drone to deliver and collect items on demand, crane lifts are reduced and technicians can focus more time on maintenance work, improving efficiency and safety. The cargo drone trial was carried out in December 2025 and operated from the Service Operation Vessel Purus Horizon. The campaign also tested two key innovations developed by Ampelmann: unmanned pick-up of cargo and automated flight operations. All flights were performed under winter offshore conditions. The results are convincing. All systems worked reliably and demonstrated that cargo drone deliveries and pick up operations can be safely and structurally integrated as a service into standard offshore operations. This trial confirms the potential of cargo drones as a valuable addition to offshore wind logistics, with opportunities to reduce vessel movements, improve technician efficiency and contribute to safer offshore operations. #CrossWindHKN #offshoreinnovations #windturbines #cargodrones #sustainableenergy Shell Eneco

It shows that marine life can now be observed more efficiently and accurately, enabling us to gather data that deepens our understanding of how nature responds to offshore wind development. We’ve successfully completed the second of four fully remote ecology surveys for the BeWild project, and we did it in record time! ✅ 3 turbines surveyed in one night ✅ High-definition imaging and photogrammetry completed ✅ All environmental DNA (eDNA) samples collected successfully ✅ Engineering inspections done in parallel All of this was achieved from our remote operations centre in Aberdeen, using advanced technology like eDNA sampling and computer vision integrated into our Blue Volta® electric ROV, deployed from our Blue Essence® USV. This survey marks a huge leap forward from our first and shows how quickly we learn, adapt, and deliver. It’s a true team effort and a great example of integrating environmental services with advanced engineering expertise. ⚡ CrossWind at Energy Reinvented Community 2025 - Shaping the Future of Hydrogen Last week, CrossWind joined industry leaders at Energy Reinvented Community to discuss "Hydrogen Projects Powering the Netherlands – Operational Insights from Electrolysers, Pipelines, and Industrial Hubs." Our Innovations Manager, Maria Kalogera, shared insights from the Baseload Power Hub, one of CrossWind's innovation projects. Maria was joined by Roel Aretz, Hans Coenen and Eric van Herel. Thanks to the seven 'sockets' at sea, offshore wind farms like Hollandse Kust Noord can bring their sustainable energy to shore. This makes a huge difference in accelerating the energy transition.
Met de grid readiness van Hollandse Kust (west Beta) is ons 700 MW-programma voltooid, vijf maanden eerder dan gepland.⚡️ Zeven stopcontacten op zee. Zeven keer 700 megawatt. Zeven keer samenwerken aan één doel: meer duurzame energie voor Nederland. Een mijlpaal die we samen met onze partners Smulders, EQUANS, HSM Offshore Energy BV, Boskalis, Jan De Nul Group, Van Oord, NRG Group, Royal BAM Group, Ballast Nedam, Hanab Energy Solutions, DNV en windmolenparkexploitanten Vattenfall, RWE, Crosswind, Ecowende, Blauwwind en Ørsted hebben bereikt. Last week the Base Load Power Hub arrived in the Netherlands and brings a great impulse to developing our knowledge of offshore hydrogen possibilities. The installation is a platform that: - measures 23 by 46 meters (75.5 by 151 feet), - weighs 1,800 tonnes (3,968,320 lbs), - has a 2.5-megawatt electrolyser, - can store 1,200 kilograms (2,646 lbs) of hydrogen, - has a conversion module with a 1-megawatt battery and a storage capacity of 5 MWh. On the 3rd of October we celebrated the arrival of the BaseLoad Power Hub in the Eemshaven harbour and the handing over of the installation to its new owner Delft Offshore Turbine (DOT) to arrange future research into hydrogen production with this installation. With the arrival of the BaseLoad Power Hub in Eemshaven harbour, in the northeast of the Netherlands, a new milestone has been reached for the Dutch energy transition and the development of the regional Groningen Hydrogen Valley. The innovative installation is the first platform for hydrogen production and storage designed and built for offshore conditions. The platform measures 23 by 46 meters (75.5 by 151 feet), weighs 1,800 tonnes (3,968,320 lbs), and combines a 2.5-megawatt electrolyser, 1,200 kilograms (2,646 lbs) of hydrogen storage, and a conversion module with a 1-megawatt battery and a storage capacity of 5 MWh. On October 3, Crosswind handed over the platform to its new owner Delft Offshore Turbine (DOT) for further research into hydrogen production. DOT is seeking collaborations with universities and industries. A Shell Technology team will remain engaged with the project. The Baseload Power Hub has arrived in the Netherlands! 🚢 This weekend the Baseload Power Hub arrived in the port of Eemshaven after a carefully planned 5-week journey from Italy. Navigating around storm Amy and the resulting high waves, the team ensured safe passage by sailing only during calm weather windows. In early October we will celebrate its arrival. To enable further industry-wide learning, ownership will then be transferred to Delft Offshore Turbine (DOT), in collaboration with Groningen Seaports and TNO .
