Ejder - Somateria mollissima - Common Eider

Last night in Reykjavik and I went to the Tjörnin damm to watch birds. And I was lucky to see newly hatched eiders. But I also did wee one eider male eating from the people feeding them with bread. That can´t be good.

This is the last post with birds from Iceland. This was not a birding trip but I still managed to get 25 bird species photographed in those seven days. Some of them lifers. And captured while the others on the trip were having lunch. :)

Skrattmås - Larus ridibubdus - Black-headed Gull

The last image is the view from my hotel room. It is the river where it all happened. I was fascinated by the gulls and watched them for quite a while. They seemed to play games with the stream. Like children using a slide in a water park. They flew upstream, landed and floated downstream, then back up again. There was maybe ten of them joining the fun.

Quite impossible to get close but still a nice experience. Both places in the same area. I was standing on a dirt road in between them. Good place, great birds in both directions.

This seemed to be a common bird in Iceland. At least in the southern part of the island. I could easily get used to hearing its sound in the sky. You hear them long before you see them. To bad I found no video that had teh sound.

Strandskata - Haematopus ostralegus - Eurasian Oystercatcher

With the sighting of Oystercatchers in Queensland too I have now seen this species in 5  or 6 countries from Iceland down to Queensland. But I am still happy when I see it.  :)
Iceland, Scotland, Sweden, Morocco, Australia and maybe, Camargue in France (but that I have to check out)

This is not a great image but it was a treat to watch. The Oystercatcher herded the goats away from its nest. There was a pair of birds. One stayed at the side of the road and the other one herded the goats away. :)  Image taken from inside the bus.
