5WWC/WDYS — New Place In Town

“Why would you think I‘d be averse to a new establisment opening up in town? It would be a nice place for a diverse group of people to meet and converse about all manner of things,” Roger said. “And maybe it will help to reverse the trend of retail shops and restaurants closing up shop. New blood is just what this town needs.

“Wow, Roger, I underestimated you,” Gretchen said. “I was sure when you learned that it was a minority-owned business called ‘Give a Little Happiness’ to be run by two gay black women, that you’d be strongly opposed to it.”

“Wait, what?” Roger said. “You’re not talking about the Gentlemen’s club that’s opening next to the local office of the Junior Chamber of Commerce?”

“Oh my, Roger,” Gretchen said, “how quickly you transversed that maze when you realized how you were trapped. I guess the café I was talking about is not the kind of new blood you were hoping the town would attract.”

MLMM Friday Faithfuls — Blood Sugar

For this week’s Mindlovemysery Menagerie Friday Faithfuls challenge, Jim is asking us to write anything about high or low blood sugar, or about Type 2 diabetes, or you can write about whatever else you think might fit.

At first, I thought that Jim might have been inspired to write this post about blood sugar after reading my WordPress Daily Prompt post from two days ago about passing out while giving a speech due to what doctors attributed to low blood sugar. But then I realized that Jim usually writes and schedules his prompt posts well in advance of when he actually publishes them, so as inspiring as my post was, I don’t think it inspired this week’s Friday Faithfuls’ prompt.

Anyway, I’m what my doctor calls “prediabetic.” Prediabetes happens when you have elevated blood sugar levels, but they’re not high enough to be considered Type 2 diabetes.

Healthy blood sugar (glucose) levels are 70 to 99 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL). If you have undiagnosed prediabetes, your levels are typically 100 to 125 mg/dL. Mine is a little over 100. They say that people who have prediabetes have up to a 50% chance of developing Type 2 diabetes within five to 10 years. The good news is that it’s possible to reverse prediabetes with a healthy lifestyle.

I’ve already sacrificed my nightly half pint of Ben & Jerry’s Stephen Colbert’s Americone Dream ice cream. And, as difficult as it is during the holiday season, I’m avoiding cakes, pies, and other sweet treats. I’m not overweight, I do get some exercise walking our dog and doing physical therapy for my hip, and thanks to my wife, I have a relatively healthy diet. So as much as a prediabetic diagnosis sounds scary, I think I’m taking positive steps to make sure it doesn’t cross the line to Type 2 diabetes.

I’m So Tired of this Shit

Tired freelancer man rubbing his eyesI was elated, excited, thrilled, and relieved when Joe Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election four days after Election Day.

Interestingly, Biden’s 306 electoral votes and Trump’s 232 electoral votes in 2020 are the exact inverse of the 2016 presidential election, when Trump received 306 electoral votes to 232 electoral votes for Clinton. And yet, despite receiving almost 3 million fewer votes than Clinton, Trump declared his victory in 2016 to be a “landslide win.”

In 2020, not only was Biden’s victory in the Electoral College a “landslide win,” according to Trump’s own accounting, but Biden also won the popular vote count by almost 6 million. There is no question that Biden won the election and that he will be inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States on January 20, 2021.

Yet here it is, almost two weeks since Biden was declared the winner, and Trump and most of his Republican cronies are still in denial. Trump has not conceded and he, his lawyers, and his GOP enablers are doing everything they can to reverse the outcome of the election.

Trump has dispatched Rudy Giuliani and a whole host of lawyers to file nuisance lawsuits in critical swing states alleging bogus charges of widespread voter fraud. Trump is personally calling Republican members of state and local election committees and asking them to not certify the election results in their jurisdictions.

Trump butt-lickers like Lindsey Graham are reaching across state lines to try to persuade state officials to throw out certain ballots in order to reverse the Biden victories in those states.

Meanwhile, media outlets like Fox News continue to support Trump’s false claims and bogus allegations and to rile up their millions of views with the assertion that the Biden win is illegitimate.

I’m so tired of this shit. Americans are tired of this shit. The world is tired of this shit. It’s time for Trump and his minions to accept reality and to stop spreading FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) about the legitimacy of the 2020 election and Biden’s decisive victory. It’s time to move on and let America begin the healing process.

If it’s not already too late.

FOWC with Fandango — Reverse

FOWCWelcome to February 25, 2019 and to Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (aka, FOWC). It’s designed to fill the void after WordPress bailed on its daily one-word prompt.

I will be posting each day’s word just after midnight Pacific Time (US).

Today’s word is “reverse.”

Write a post using that word. It can be prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction. It can be any length. It can be just a picture or a drawing if you want. No holds barred, so to speak.

Once you are done, tag your post with #FOWC and create a pingback to this post if you are on WordPress. Or you can simply include a link to your post in the comments.

And be sure to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this prompt. You will marvel at their creativity.
