I used 12" x 12" cardstock cut to different heights - follow the pictures :-). Used Double sided tape as adhesive. Will try to add actual dimensions later.

How to Hem Jeans

How to hem your jeans while keeping the original, distressed hem.

Back when I was in high school, I sent my new jeans to the tailor to get hemmed. They literally cut off the bottom and hemmed at the desired height. They looked awful. NEVER AGAIN.

Try on your jeans and see how (too) long they are with your desired shoes. Use a ruler to measure. Mine were 4 1/2 inches too long! Yes, I am a shorty.

Bean-Speckled Easter Eggs

Navy beans and food coloring combine to make beautiful speckled Easter eggs.

Edit 3/27/2017: So ... these don't ever end up completely dry. They seemed dry to to the touch the next day but when I tried to peel one, I ended up with coloring all over my hands (easily washed off). These do look really pretty but I'd consider it a "look but don't touch situation". 

DIY T-Shirt Towel for Perfectly Smooth Hair

The friction from regular terry-cloth towels can make your hair frizzy! Smooth your tresses dry with a t-shirt towel.

This is a cowl, tube style towel. It allows the user to choose single or dual layers.

This is a great. quick starter project for those who want to practice sewing with knits. Remember to trade out your regular needle for a ball-point needle.

DIY Metal Washer Bracelet

These metal washer bracelets are a great teen craft! Might sell well at craft sale fundraisers?

I adapted this from the Metal Washer + Ribbon necklace tutorial. Fold-over elastic makes it easy to take these bracelets on and off. Younger kids can make these, too. Just make sure there's a responsible adult around to  melt the ends of the elastic.

Pretty Origami Paper Hearts

I modified the Dollar Heart tutorial so that you can use the paper of your choice! This is vintage sheet music - it's really fragile so do a couple of practice runs with regular paper first. These pretty origami hearts can be used as ornaments, Valentines or gift tags!

Supplies:

• Paper - 6" x 3"
• Bone folder or butter knife
• Glue gun or strong glue
• All purpose glue or glue stick
• Button
• Paper Punch
• String
• Scissors

Book Page Filled Ornaments

Fill a clear ornament with lines from your favorite book! Mindless craft you can do while binging Gilmore Girls on Netflix ;-). That is, unless you've already binged it :-(.

Supplies:

• Book Pages
• Scissors
• Clear Fillable Ornaments
• Sticks, Skewers or Toothpicks
• Ribbon

Cut 1, 2 or more lines at a time. Taper ends (optional).

Wrap lines around sticks to make curls. Pull curls apart, if desired.

Place paper curls in  a clear ornament.

Replace topper and add ribbon to hang.

Hemp-Wrapped Memory Board

Simple hemp-wrapped memory board. Great way collect your holiday cards!

Supplies:

• Board - I used leftover boards from my Blooming Cross project. You could use old cutting boards, barnwood or whatever you have hiding in the shed :-).
• Paint & Sealer
• Hammer
• Picture Hanger
• Hemp Cord
• Office Clips or Mini Clothespins
• Staple Gun & Staples

Paint the board however you like.

Staple one end of the cord to the back of the board. Staple multiple times. I started at about the middle - you could start at the top or wherever.

Wrap cord around the board. Keep an eye on the front so you can see how the design is shaping up. Pull the cord tight and staple in place every time you wrap (on the back of the board only). When you're done wrapping, staple the end of the cord to the back at least three times. Hammer in any staples that are sticking out too far.

Hammer in the picture hanger.

Add or clips or mini clothespins.

Done! Easy peasy.

Neck Tie Scrunchies

I've been volunteering with Helping Hands MN, a charity that collects donations from the community and holds free shopping events for those in need. Apparently, no one is in need of old polyester ties in blah colors, hahaha! So I needed to find a way to upcycle these ties into something people might like.

I didn't have enough pretty ties in coordinating colors to make pillow covers or a table runner ... but I did have enough to make an assortment of scrunchies!

Ampersand Hand Kite

I found this cute little wooden ampersand at Walmart. $1!

I've seen hand-kites with ribbon wrapped around wooden rings. They're fun for kids to run with and twirl around. I thought it would be neat to use different shapes. This is also a cute way to store your ribbons! Just add a hook somewhere in your craft corner and hang it for all to see :-).

Easy Shirt 'n Tie Father's Day Gift Bag

Supplies:

• Paper sandwich bag
• Scrap paper
• Scissors
• Double-sided tape

Jenga Guest Book

Use a Jenga game to build a memorable guest book! This could be great for graduation parties, milestone birthdays or wedding receptions.

Gel pens, ballpoint pens, dry erase markers and "chalk" markers worked well.

Don't use paint pens, Sharpies or other felt-tip markers. The ink will spread and bleed! Trust me, I tried :-(.

Here's a close up of a "chalk" marker that wrote smoothly without spreading. I like the look of white writing on wood blocks:

One Seam T-Shirt Bag

Super simple project. You'll only have to sew one seam! Pick a shirt that looks great upside-down. You'll need one t-shirt for the bag and some cord or t-shirt yarn for the closure.

When you're making the 4 tiny snips, cut through only one layer of fabric, not both layers. Pull the t-shirt yarn or cord through the first hole, through the inside the bottom of the shirt, back out and in the opposite hole, thread through the other side and knot the end!
